Looking for true commander length 1911

I'm pretty sure many of the local retailers would have one or two in stock. Try Italian Sporting Goods on Renfrew, they usually have a few Colts and Kimbers in stock. Reliable Guns and Tackle on Fraser is good too. If you're looking for a Norinco, I'm sure Lever has a couple in stock.
 
Lots around made by STI, Para Ord, Colt, Kimber, etc.....pretty much every popular 1911 company puts out a commander.
All depends on what cartridge and how much you want to spend.

For a true Commander length Barrel/slide/frame (4.25"), you have only a few choices

1. Colt
2. Paraordnance
3. Sig (slide is a little bit skinnier than most 1911's)
4. S&W (scandium frame)
5. Norinco

Kimber uses a 4" barrel lengthened to legal limits.
STI Ranger II uses a barrel that meets legal limits but it's not a true commander slide and the frame is a gov't frame, longer than commander frame so it won't fit in holsters made for Commanders
Wilson Combat pistols also do not make a true commander.
 
Call me old school but those old style Colt Ltwt. Commanders are elegant. I always did ok with the old nonextended safety on those guns.

I have an STI Ranger II and while it does have a slightly shorter barrel and a government frame, it still fits nicely in my Milt Sparks VMII. How? Why? I don't know, but it does.
 
Dlask will make you one to order, Gunnar at Armco will take a Norinco one and make you swear it's a Colt. Both are excellent values, in their own way.
