Oh oh, I have offended the Canadian happy police. If you can't see how far this country has slid in the last 50 years, there really isn't any hope for you. And I have worked and lived in over 60 countries, which gives me a lot of perspective. When you wake up, you can join the rest of us. - dan.

As I was reading woodchoppers post, I was coming to a similar conclusion with respect to the untold amounts of money the government shovelled out the door when COVID started - we still have no idea. Yet to buy a fricken pistol, every "i" dotted and "t" must be crossed or the process is somehow considered unfair and will be challenged. Hell, I bet when this is awarded, it will still end up before a tribunal somewhere. Government certainly can take things to other levels unknown in the private world.

Seriously though, considering the debt that we're now saddled with, I wonder how far the Feds will kick this, along with the jets (and who knows what else our military needs), down the road?
 
Hmmmmmm, since Canada has sent most of the Militaries firearms to the Ukraine will civilians be arming the Military with OIC firearms? I'm sure that would make sense to a liberal somehow.
 
So go back to 1970. Fill your Mercury Meteor with leaded gas and go to the curling club where you and the boys can smoke to your heart's content and dream of the glory days that might have been if not for Diefenbaker! And then, after slinging back a few, you could drive home. And every September, the Mounties could round up the Indians who didn't want to go to the residential schools.

You'd get your grade 8 and go get a job in the paper mill or the plant just like your dad. And you'd be happy because you could support a family of four on a labor job. Never mind that your plant was dumping chemicals which gave you cancer but also poisoned the rivers and land you lived on.

I do get it. You liked the good old days when you could do whatever you wanted and there were no repercussions. Not being able to do that must really feel like oppression. Given how much you complain about the world, I submit that it is actually you who are the snowflake.

Given that you seem to think this burning dumpster fire is ok, I can only assume you are incapable of rational thought. It's ok, you/they have lots of company. Do whatever I wanted? How did you manage to jump to that conclusion? You do get that if you are a firearms owner (the purpose of this site if you'll recall) we have been continuously harassed and attacked by the government you seem to need to defend. So either you haven't thought it through, you don't care that it happened, or you are simply a child. - dan
 
Firearms ownership is literally a single aspect of life and given how Canada has been urbanizing over the last 50 years, there is obviously going to be a divide. So yes, I do not approve of how the country has handled firearms rights, but we get it better than most.

As for other aspects, we kick ass in a lot of things: in education we ranked 4th in the world with a unique distinction of SES not mattering - poor kids still did well, which is not a phenomenon widely observed. Our life expectancy is higher than most - including the US. Our quality of life ranks higher than pretty well any other country except Denmark.

So ##### about Canada all you want. You won the goddamned lottery by being born here. Feel free to go elsewhere if they'll have you...

Yeah, the 70's were great. I well remember grabbing pregnant women and native kids and locking them in rooms to smoke at them. Oh wait, that never happened. Lol. Grow up kid. - dan

Most of that pollution stuff could still go on if we actually tackled the real problem. Overpopulation and growing still will mean no matter how we cut back we will have a real problem. The earth was not meant to support infinite humans, etc.
I did smoke freely, I did pay a small amount for gasoline. I did not send people to residential schools. I did not see any pregnant women fired. I worked with a company in the 70's that had a large number of "ability challenged" people and was and is still very successful. Had the same in our school prior to the 70's with students helping the disabled and challenged. Some of this stuff attributed to me and my generation makes me sick. I did not see it.

Now we have a government that talks and accomplishes very little, including the lack of an effectibve armed forces. Crappy subs, old aircraft, old sidearms,. Tired of seeing the broken down vehicles on the side of the roads during "exercises".
Anyway no excuse for lack of modern weapons including fighter aircraft.

My guess is that politicians don't see a return on the "investment". Specifically, spending over and above the typical yearly military budget, doesn't result in votes.
