Intallation of New Sharps 1874 Main Spring

Does anyone know where I might find a video or step by step text instructions on how to remove and replace the main spring on my 1874 Sharps Sporter?

You are going to need a mainspring compression tool. #### the lock, apply the clamp, tighten it, then ease the hammer forward. The tool will hold the spring compressed, and it can be freed from the lock.
Get the proper tool - don't use vice grips, etc. The tool will support the long arm of the spring.

Is it possible to remove the lock without any other disassembly?

You should be able to remove the lock from the rifle without any other disassembly. Hammer at half ####, remove the screws securing the lock. If it is snug, replace the lock screws a couple of turns, and tap the heads of the screws to loosen the lock.

Thanks, I search online and found them at Track of the Wolf and Brownells but neither has them in stock . Do you know of anyone else that might have them?

I ordered this mainspring vise from Dixie 40 years ago at least. They always still give good service to this day. Log Cabin Shop also have those in stock.
