My early production wk180 has now broken 3 piston rods.
I just put in another rod, it seems aligned with the plastic bushing in the receiver. There's no play in the gas block on the barrel. I'm running 25 gr varget under a 55gr campro.
Is there an adjustable gas block available for this? Any ideas?
I'm starting to wish it was direct impingement.

SBI is working on a DI-ish replacement bolt control group that they say will work in existing WKs (though it will be best with their upper).

In the meantime, there's a thread about adding a recoil buffer to the guide holding rod plate that sits at the back of the receiver, similar to that found on the Bushmaster Assault Rifle recently showcased on Forgotten Weapons. Some people were using a shaved down TNA 9mm WK buffer for this purpose.

Mid length piston.
It's what I use.

If you didn't want to do a barrel swap, is there enough room between the barrel and piston to put an MRA Renegade gas port seal ring in the carbine port and allow drilling out the mid-length port? Not sure what the cost of drilling the port with the seal would be; it might exceed the cost of a new barrel with a mid- length port, assuming you can get one with the AR part scarcity.

I'm going to go the diy adjustable gas block route.

Nice, let us know how it goes.

According to a developer with the project sponsor, the Sterling R18 is using a composite rifle length piston system, closer to that from the original AR180, that will have more flex allowed and is less likely to snap. Only time will tell if this is true.

The R18 also comes with an adjustable gas block and a neoprene buffer for the BCG to run into on the guide rail end plate.
