Hello,
I'm considering buying an Willams FP for the 30-30 win 94 I inherited. I was thinking I'd use the peep at the range but remove it and use the ghost ring for hunting.

Will this setup be ok to make quick / running shots at deer at 50 yrds when pushing bush. Or is the open site better

I find the factory supplied aperture wide enough. Even the next-smallest aperture (.090", I think) is adequate for what you want. You'll know after you try it at the range. I personally don't care for the "ghost ring" and see no need for it any further out than 10 yards.

I have the FP sight on my Marlin 336. Like Kilo Charlie, I find the standard aperture easy to use in the woods, I've never needed to remove it to shoot effectively.

You can leave the aperture installed for most shooting, remove it at dawn and dusk in order to extend your shooting time. Otherwise your front sight will disappear. There is very little practical difference in accuracy either way, but if you feel better hunting with an aperture installed, by all means do so. For running shots I have found aperture sights MUCH more effective than open sights, much less tendency to shoot high. And you don't need to limit yourself to 50 yds, more like 150 yds with that set up.

Thanks long walker. Thats the kind of advice I was looking for. Do you know where to buy one? I don't mind having it sent by mail. Do you recommend the Wililams FP or 5D?

Any local gunshop should be able to order one for you.
Or you could try any of the mail order shops like LeBaron, Wholesale Sports, SIR, etc.

Personally I use a peep on quite a few of my hunting guns & prefer the apertures out, even for target shooting, I've never seen where they particularily helped on target accuracy & find it slows down target aquistion speed.

The 5D works fine, but has no knobs to do fine sight adjustment, you loosen the screws, and slide it. Makes sighting in a bit of a pain, compared to the ease of the FP, with it's click adjustment screws.
And YES, the FP is a damned good hunting, and target sight for the 30-30 in any rifle, or any cartridge, in any other rifle for that matter.

Got a williams Peep sight with fire sight (Fiber optic) for the front sight on my 30-30.

Works awsome. they should come standard with the 94s!

same, I love my FP. I pull the aperture out when I'm guiding, but leave it in for everything else.

Gentleman I used a 30-30 Winchester carbine,to harvest a whitetailed deer near Cold lake Alberta, using such a combination of FP peep and Fire Site at a paced off distance of 260 yards, on the 22 Nov'05....One shot into boiler room, deer dead right there.
I swear on my father's grave this to be true.

I had lots of pre-season practice at the local range.
I cannot personally think of a more perfect sight set-up for some-one, not wanting to use a riflescope on thier levergun.

Sorry for the late responce shellbird1, I used Winchester 150 grain Silvertip
(old style) factory ammo.
Burned through quite a bit of ammo starting three months before deer season.
I knew I was ready, when I could from the off-hand pos'n, pop the 10 by 10 inch steel gong at 200 yards 5 out of 7 shots in a row...

At first I fully intended to use a 26 inch 30-30 rifle, but it developed feeding issues about a month before the season opener.
I therefore utilized by dad's 30-30 carbine M94 Winchester instead, which is flawless in operation.

Shellbird1, what that round did in damage to the vitals and soft tissue, was incredible and surprizing!
thankfully it was an almost head-on shot into the chest cavity.....
Lots of drop, I aimed for this deer's white throat patch, and had over a foot of drop, I believe...no wind of any consequence, by the way.
The high zero was a good idea!

I also use a Williams 5D and Firesight on a Marlin 336 30-30. It is a terrific set-up, quick and accurate, you just put the red spot on what you want to hit! I slipped a round into the lungs of a moose and a second one through his heart from 130 yards kneeling. It was almost dark, I would have never made those shots with a regular open sight. Just be sure to run as low a front sight as possible to keep your rear peep low to the reciever as well.
