the lightest rifle??

.243 bullet too light to kill a deer at 300 yards.

My dad used 6mm for deer for years. I don't think it should be used to hunt deer at all. imo.
Warrren Page just rolled over in his grave.
I know LOTS of people who shoot deer at extended ranges and moose as well with 243's and 6mm Remingtons.
You should really do some reaserch before posting stuff.

I'd go for the Ruger American Compact meself. Only 6 lbs and the buggers shoot bloody accurate for the price. The money saved can go towards a 2-7x32 Bushnell Elite scope to top 'er off. Ye can ditch the blade safety on the trigger as well if need be. The ergos on these be fine fer me old 6' frame.

A Thompson Center Pro Hunter with 15" barrel is pretty light. I never weighed any of mine but I've owned H&R, NEF, and Henry single shots and the TC sure felt the lightest to me.

Here's one showing a 308 barrel compared to the factory length muzzleloader.

308 is good enough for 300 yards. Ruger American is 6'1'' pounds and even with a scope below 7 pounds and can shoot MOA. Just picked one up for my stack of 308 from the SFRC sale for under $600. I know about the plastic magazines and ordered one additional but I usually don't drop my phone into the toilette, so not really worried. Now on the hunt for a scope and a brake (should be easy).

There is a nice little Rem 600 Mohawk 243 on EE right now that would fit the bill, Not mine but think they are asking around $1100. Those are nice light little rifles, ive got a few

Ruger American ranch 308 or Remington model 7 “bottomland” or “kuiu”. Both come factory with 16” barrels and if I remember correctly well under 6 pounds. Kimber hunter also an option.

Not sure about your configuration but I own a ruger American ranch in 308. Dropped loaded mags a handful of times getting on and off my machine and went through 3 before I realized the mag from my ruger American ranch in 450 bushmaster worked perfectly for my 308. It is a single stack made out of much better plastic than the cheap ruger rotary mags. It is more similar to the AICS mags. Bought a few of them for my 308 and never looked back. No modification required.

So Your a Bit Clumsy EH :p RJ

Oh god: Use to have a kit TC Prohunter: 22-250, 7mm RM, 25-06, 375 H&H.
So GLAD its out of my stable...
You are bringing back so many nightmares...ouff !

Really? What did you have troubles with?

Other than really hating the recoil on the 375 H&H that I owned (and subsequently dumped) the accuracy and versatility on almost all of the other calibers have been great. I know a bunch of guys who have had similar experience. I've heard a couple of guys online swear that they couldn't get their barrels to group. Not sure what the cause would have been but I haven't experienced it.
