Fellow shooters,
Title says it all. I am looking for a new scope for my 22 and was wondering about features I would want that are different than a scope for a centrefire.
Thanks for any input in advance.

I have a bushnell "rimfire" on mine... there are 2 models... one with fixed paralax at 50m and one with an AO... If you're going to shoot at different distances, the AO is a really nice feature... it's a bit more expensive though.

I just looked on the WS site, and couldn't find it anymore... this one is pretty close though

The finger adjustable knobs are really nice.

That's kind of a hard question to answer until you say what kind of a .22 you're talking about and how you intend to use it. Sporting or target gun? Plinking, target shooting, varmint shooting?

While I agree that we should know what you have in mind, if your using it for hunting, keep it simple. A light 2-7 or 3-9 with a fixed 50 yard parallax is about all you would ever need. AO's are handy, but if you need to shoot quick, they leave you hanging.

I really like the Bushnell Banner 3.5-10x36AO I bought for my 10/22.....very clear and has held up great.
Specs can be found here Banner Scope

Those leapers scopes look pretty good, think I'll have to pick one of them up too.

EDIT: Maybe not, did a search on the forum and the word is that they're $hity apparently.

.22 scope

I aggree with Hitzy. I have bushnell banners on several of my .22's and so far they have surved me very well. I would get the 4-12x40.

X 2.

I've used the Banner 4-12 AO on .22 rf rifles too, and been happy with them, bought at Wally's for about $130.

However, if you're just shooting offhand, informally plinking or shooting grouse at close range you really don't need much. Last month I picked up two Fitco 2-7 power AO scopes for $35 each including tax and shipping to use on .22 rf and air rifles. I'm quite impressed with them, for the money. They will do the intended job fine.

On the other hand, if you want to group shoot from a bench at 50 or 100 m then you need a better scope like the Banner 4-12. In my opinion, you must have AO to shoot .22 rf.

For ####s and giggles, do a search here for "Fitco"......:)

22 scope

I think that the weaver scopes for rimfire would be a good value. They have a 2-7x32mm rimfire scope with a 50 yard parallex. You don't want a scope with a 40mm objective on a 22. Most of your shots will be 20 to 30 yards anyway. For the occasional 50 or 60 yard shot, 7 power would be fine.

I actually have a 1.75-6x33mm LEUPOLD VARIXIII scope on my Winchester 9422. The only proplem is it has a 100 yard parallex, but it is crystal clear and I don't put the power above 2 or 3 times at the most anyway. The VXI 2-7X33mm rimfire scope would be a good value as well. It has a 50 yard parallex as well.

It all depends on the type or model .22 you have and what scope suits it! I have a lot of different rimfires and a large variety of different scopes mostly with a 1 inch tube for them ranging from a 28mm to a 50mm objective with many magnification ranges including fixed. It depends on the sleekness of the gun and if you want a sleek scope, how high you want it mounted, and so on...

I agree with Hitzy. I have the Bushnell Banner 3.5-10x36AO as well and it is a excellent scope for the money. It was $80.00 or there about. Well worth the few extra $$ compared to busnell rimfire scopes ( i have 2 of these and do not care for them as much). It's mounted on my 10/22 target stainless.

I've just installed a vxII 2-7 shotgun scope on my kimber .22 hunter. Works perfect, shot gun scope has 75 yd parallax, leupold vxII 2-7 rimfire would also be a good one, 50 yd parallax. I'm using a VXI 3x9 (100yd parallax) on my cz .17hmr and no complaints with that either. But I'm a bit of a luepold freak, anything burris would also be good and more affordable. My suggestion, watch for a good used leupold, or just by a new one if $$ are not a problem.
