Time for a mini review. I haven't shot it yet but we had it all apart in the shop today and looked it over.
From a manufacturing stand point, I'm very unimpressed. The machining and general construction is alright, but not worth $2300. The ejector plate thing makes me cringe. The floppy and loose charging handle is also unimpressive. The bolt catch you can reach with your trigger finger is a great feature but it is sloppy and loose. Basically, they cheaped out on quality to get the rifles banged out as fast as they could for as cheap as they could. So many screws on this thing just waiting to loosen up and fall out.
The Rodbarm folding mechanism is a flaming pile of s**t. It's like they started designing a folding mech and then just said, "Meh, that's good enough." Nothing holds the stock in the folded position but friction on two plastic washers. You tighten the hinge pin screw to get the right friction on it. Shaking the rifle will cause the stock to flop around. When locked up in the fixed position there is play in the mechanism. There is also a random screw that we can't figure out what it does. I think you are supposed to back it out to get rid of the play but then it will be loose? Needless to say, the Canadian built folding mechanism will be greatly improved if I have any say in it.
How did you get your hands on a Robarm folding stock, you ask? I'm better than you, that's how.
In summary, from a "haven't shot it" stand point the XCR gets a thumbs down. It is a decently designed rifle that I'm sure will work fine but plain and simple it is not worth $2300. Save your money, pass on this rifle and wait for the Canadian built .308 black rifle.
