Why isn't there a better design? No aftermarket options? Would there be a demand for one?

What are your opinions? Do you love or hate the little spring steel flap?

Update!!! First prototype:

I have seen 3D printed add on extensions but they do look awkward. I am not crazy about the design but it does work ok.
Most are open to improvements though so if you've got an idea let's see/hear about it.

I am indifferent. It works so Far so I can’t complain. But much prefer the mags and mag release on my Savage A22 (prefer these over the Ruger 10/22 as well)

I've seen those too and they're definitely awkward. I've never had a reliability issue with the current design but, it is weird either having to use two hands or put your hand over the mag and use your ring finger to reach behind and pull back on the release.

I have half a design drawn up (the rest of the idea is in my head) that I'm 95% sure will work really well. After I finish it up, I'd print it to prove the concept but strength of the parts would be limited, it should be machined for a final product.

Is that the flap attached to the front of the mag? I tried googling pictures to see how the A22 works

Hi - I don't have a MK but on my S-64 I drilled a small hole in the bottom and stuck a piece of clothes-hanger in. Less than an inch of hanger. Then I put some JB around it and it's held fine for about 5-6 years. Really Bubba but it works !! This pic also shows how I widened the mag well significantly, makes it wayy easier to switch mags ( I have 7 ).

I've 3D printed a catch release for the "cz" I'm restoring. 100% plastic is strong enough for what this is. I can machine one from aluminum but haven't had the need.

Having a 3D printer, cnc router/mill and lathe makes all this a real breeze

That is great to know! I will make my parts with 100% infill

Wow! Very cool. Does it replace the bottom metal or mount to it?
If you decide to sell em I'd be interested.

Thank you!
It's mounted to the bottom metal, it acts like a ceiling to contain the button. I was thinking of having it directly to the stock, but I'd have to make more clearance for the mag well and that would take away from the prongs that push against the original mag release.

I would like to have them available to buy, but I need to work on some revisions to make it bulletproof for anyone to install on their own gun.

The biggest issue is I would like longer action screws, about 1/8" longer, but can't find anything like them.

I hate my mag release.
If you can start selling these I can use two. My buddy can use two. These rifles are everywhere.

There definitely seems to be interest for it, so I would really like to make it available to buy.
I made some tweaks and now it works great without the original plate in place
I have absolutely no idea what a fair price would be for them

That’s always a tough call. You can’t beat China pricing but they’re not making these. MDT prices are high but serve clients with money in a specialized market. You also need to factor in that you’ll be dealing directly with buyers. That can be an annoying time-suck.
I’ve bought from a few guys on here that make good products in their home shops. I’ve paid anywhere from $11 (too low) for a charging handle to $30 (still too low!) for other bits that obviously required a skilled machinist.
I know these rifles are cheap but I like buying parts to improve them. If your device is durable and installs easily then it’s a winner IMHO.
