With all these restrictions on us why can't we hunt with our handguns? What is you're input on this? If allowed would you hunt with a handgun and what caliber would you use? :)

It don't make much sense does it. A 44mag is fine in rifle but if you shortten the barrell and take the stock away you can't hunt. I guess the barrel lenght is what kills the animal.I would use a 44mag up to deer and probelly a BFR in a rifle calibur for larger animals.

Try as I might I cannot seem to find a POLL in this post that is posted in ONLINE POLLS........

Hmmmm

Gonna move it........

well somewhere, probably hunting I guess.

idd love to hunt with a hand gun, after long walks in the bush with shotgun/rifle, my arms kill!!!
Idd get me a .357 mag!

If I could hunt in the area where we are restricted to using a shotgun or muzzleloader only I would totally hunt with a hundgun. It would be even more challenge than the shotty but not quite as limiting as using a bow. Did I mention the second shot...:)

For me, different game, different terrain calls for different choices, not unlike rifle hunting. Vancouver Island Deer, .357 Mag. The interior on Deer & Black Bear, .44 Mag. Preliminary looking into the possibility of a Moose hunt in Alaska, my 500 S&W. I can only dream.

If I could hunt with a handgun I would in a heartbeat. My choice would be a Thompson Center in either the 7-30 Waters or .30-30 Winchester. Powerful enough for any game, and being a single shot, I could use any bullet I want. I used to practice shooting my .357's at the range like I were hunting. Different positions, sitting on my butt. I think with enough practice, 2-300 yard shots could be possible with these two cartridges. One piece of advice: Never fire a revolver with your legs crossed like shooting sticks. Two words, powder burn.

p.s. I don't think I could ever give up a rifle though.

Would love to be able to hunt with a handgun. What would be wrong with shooting gophers with handguns? Or ruffed grouse? Or deer? I don't use a black powder rifle, nor a bow, but I sure as heck support the idea. I was out in western Sask. this fall shooting gophers and could have gotten along just fine with one of my .22 Ruger semi's. There were two guys shooting not too far off with something bigger than .22 rimfire, and it was a bit unnerving as they were shooting parallel to a road where I was shooting away from at right angles. Just think, if we could use handguns to hunt deer, we would have guys shooting big bucks at 500 yds, around corners, over hills and on the run, just like rifles!!:p:p

I'd love to be able to carry a handgun in the woods for a lot of reasons.Back-up for bowhunting bears, and a nice 'lil .22 revolver for trapping and plinking all those damn partridge that I see when I'm deerhunting just to name a couple?
