Hey guys,

Looking to put a 1940 production Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf a./N, (42) on the market.

First off the stock was whittled down by my grandfather who brought it home from the other side of the pond. It's far from original, sporterized by hand and left sort of rough.

Looks like matching numbers on most of the parts except the bolt assembly is different. Serial number looks to be #236.

Rifle is sold, thanks to those that reached out and replied!

1940 Mauser built, mismatch bolt, bottom metal matching sporter. The stock may match. The s/n is in the barrel channel. How does it shoot?
 
500$ is about right in todays market for a restorable german mauser. A vet bring back, bolt mismatche is usually the next best thing after a fully matching gun. Unfortunatly the bubba stock is killing the value on this one. I am curious to know if the stock still has its serial number in its channel were the barrel sit. I have no doubt this would sell at 500$.
 
I think you folks are way to high in your evaluation of that basicly collection of parts. It's definitely to much for what it is as a hunting rifle.

$400 max, including shipping, keep the stock.

By the time you get a replacement stock, upper hand guard, stock ferrules/springs, sight hood, butt plate, etc, source them, ship them etc, you will never recoup the cost of putting it back to military configuration.

At $400 you might break even and have what may be a decent shooter, IF the bore is VG+

While I agree that theres no money to be made, we see all the time those no.4 sporter going for 400$ and above. I dont see why it should be different for a less comon sporter to go for a bit more. It not about what you are willing to pay. Its about what only 1 guy is willing to spend on such rifle.
 
You don't see them selling for $400, unless there is something special about them, such as 6 groove barrels, minty/matching # condition etc.

Mostly they go for $250 to $300 or less, depending on a lot of variables.

Lots of people ask for $400 but sit on them until they lower their prices.

A few desperate people will pay that much, but not if they know what they're getting into.
