Price gouging

I bought varget for $50 per pound a month ago. It was not old stick either. We just have a delay in the powder coming up to canada. It will be back and it will not be $875 per 8lbs.

Does your powder retailer ship? Card to post where we can get the same deal? Varget has been very hard to get. My LGS was selling less common old stock powders for $48 a month ago. They don’t ship. Common powders have been unobtainium. $75 for everything now.

$14,000…..

Wow.

yup I laughed out loud when I read that guys add.
works out to just over 100.00 a pound LOL
hard pass LOL

thankfully with a few recent trades, the local LGS and travelling within an hour to stores that have no online presence, I have managed to fill my needs list for powder for the forseeable future at under 60.00 per pound. Also managed to stock up on projectiles and have lots of brass from my rifles saved. I bought a bunch of Varget when it was 35bucks a pound so count myself fortunate there. I just reload for 3 rifles and all are for hunting so my demands aren't as high as those who reload to punch paper on the weekends or in competitions.
I don't forsee the prices of ammunition or reloading essentials ever going down in price. Buy it cheap(?) and stack it deep if you can.

Supply and demand… H4350 is now consistently selling for over $300 a pound. I still have over 30 pounds of it and may just have to cash in at these prices although that will leave me with nothing to shoot, but at those prices that’s a pretty nice vacation instead of pew pew.

Vacation……..I’m thinking the same but to buy gas and groceries.

In a matter of a couple of months I have seen Cheddite shotgun primers go from $ 6.99 a 100 ,when I bought 300, to a list of $9.99 and now $12.99 at Cabelas. And both prices out of stock. These are French made, and imported.

Whew! I bought 5 lbs of H4350 at $65/lb just a few months ago. It was out of stock in an hour at that price... But I ain't selling any powder. No way, Jose!

Did you factor in the cost of your fuel to get those prices. It's not a factor if you're already making the trip.

I recently spoke to a fellow that drove to Kamloops from Vernon to purchase reloading supplies, because he would save $40 overall on the price.

The fuel cost him more than he saved.

I have a couple of pounds of h4350 I would be happy to sell for a mere 500 dollars

I also have a 1/4 lb of varget, 75 bucks should do it for that

Sometimes we do it just to spite the locals since that's the only logic they have for higher prices at times! (They have same costs, same volume, less overhead at times)

He may have just made the trip to see if the highway was useable..........

$60/pound? Buy it all. Right now. Your “principles” are costing you $15-$40/pound. Try to buy a new F450. Go ahead, tell us how it goes. You want my 2019 for $125K? Would you buy gas for $1.25/litre now?

What you are saying is dead on , I have a 2019 superduty myself and i can sell it for 20k more than what I paid 3 years ago , am I selling it for a 20k profit and i got to drive it for free for 3 years ? Heck No! The same truck will cost me 90k+ and I will wait a year or longer for it to be built, there are ford dealerships selling trucks for 5,10,15,000$ over MSRP and people are lined up to pay!

I recently turned to reloading, and after I acquired some supplies, and was confident I would be able to get my 6.5 PRC to shoot, I decided to sell my remaining factory rounds. Guy was happy to pay $125 per box for it, and I'm sure is still smiling about the find.
I'm smiling as well, as it helped offset some of my costs to start reloading. Win/win.

Recently did the same for my 303 brit.

If someone is looking for it, and I am not using it, sure I'll sell it for the going rate, like anyone else out there would.

I was at my lgs last week buying some primers and noticed they had some IMR4895 on the shelf and told the guy behind the counter to throw a pound of that on the tab as well. I never thought to ask the price in advance(won't make that mistake twice, haha) and when I got back to the truck and looked at the receipt I saw that it was $75 for that single 1 lb container. My own fault for not looking but I'll never buy any powder there again I don't think. That's $20+ more than I have ever paid for 1lb of powder previously.

Backcountry?

My Varget has a 50 dollar price tag on it from them around 5 years back. Think corlanes was selling the same for 35-40 at the time, almost worth the trip to DC. I never shopped at backcountry much because of their gouging.

Sure glad I bought a 5 lb jug of d4064 in 2020. Still have it sealed unopened. Got it for like 170$. If canada ammo gets any more bulk powder in I’ll be all over that.

I think I saw in another thread that they won’t be getting any more powder until 2023. I also got one of their 5 lb jugs a few years back. Prices were already starting to climb and I clued in about these bulk deals.
Eventually we will get things like this back, just priced a bit higher but the world will still turn.
