So you think the current value would equal retail? Thanks.

No, but it's a good benchmark to start. If your buddy wants them sold fairly quick price everything at $0.70 cents per round. Retail right now goes from $0.70 to $1.00 per round depending on store and ammo type, which in itself is ####ing ridiculous. Never thought I'd see 223 at $1.00 per round for at least another 20 years.

Check current on-line pricing !

Some of that ammo is 'premium quality' like the Hornady and Nosler - those retail around $40+ /box when I bought some last Fall. Some of the others would fall into the $0.70 - 1.50/ round price range mentioned.
Best to look on vendors sites for 'current' pricing, though many are no longer in stock.
PS - I was in local BP Sunday and they have Herters .223 FMJ in 150 round boxes for $130 - was $80 last Fall and $60 last Spring (0.40/rnd) !! The Herters is fairly accurate for bulk but now at 0.87 / round !

This is a good point. I have seen some vendors have insane pricing (by today's standards) on some .223 ammo, but in inquiring further, they have been out of stock for literally years and the pricing on their website still reflected the last time they had stock (which was 2018 in one case and even 2016 in another). So I'd always check the in stock prices as a more accurate gauge.

I’ve been shopping recently and have seen some of these at various price points from early 2022 to now. Some have gone up a lot in past month or so. That Hornady Superformance sells anywhere from $30-40 for a box of 20. I saw the nosler at cabelas for $37, then it increased to $45. Remington UMC used to be cheap ($0.70-0.75/rd) but looking at the bulk pricing now it’s closer to $0.85-0.90/rd. Even CT was selling Federal AE FMJ at $18-19 for box of 20, but recently increased the price to $25!

Yeah same here - noticed the jump in Noslers and Hornady as well. I already knew Vista and their subsidiaries (Federal, Speer, CCI, etc.) were all subject to a large price hike last November, but I guess just like gas stations when one goes up, the others all follow suit.

Sell the Noslers and Horny separately. If he's not looking to split it up and sell the ones that deserve a bit more separately I wouldn't pay more than blammo pricing - 5% so about $0.70/rd.

To early for me to do the math, but because those numbers appear to be full boxes a quick trip to any of the site sponsors to tally up prices would be my first trip.
Regards,
Rob

Agreed. I’d say your friend should just tally up retail prices, and offer it up for sale at that price. Saves the buyer the tax and it’ll likely sell to someone who wants to test various ammo in their rifle.

Thanks for all the help guys. The Federal 1000 round ammo can doesn’t seem to be made anymore. It’s not bulk like the current cans. All the ammo is nicely boxed. I was told it’s Lake City ammo made for the US Military when Federal had the contract. Is that stuff worth anymore than the current Federal bulk stuff? It seems like the current cans are around $750 or so.
