Parker Hale 1200C trigger options

I've got a Parker Hale 1200C in .270Win that I've restored, and I would like to replace the trigger with something better.

Can someone recommend a quality trigger that will fit in this rifle?

Product numbers would be ideal if possible.

I have several Parker Hale 1200 here - not sure anyone makes a "drop-in" replacement for that trigger that also puts the safety in same place, and I know of none that have that lever that rises up to lock the bolt shut, when on "safe". I would expect any of the Timney and similar made for Mauser 98 would work?? Can look on Internet - is pictures of both Parker Hale and Santa Barbara instructions to set up those Parker Hale adjustable triggers - might need disassembly, thorough cleaning and perhaps some honing, first. Is a few versions available, but I think the guts of them all the same?? How they attached to receiver - set screw or not - is main difference - all that I am familiar with used the same cross pin as is used on the military trigger.

I think was on those instructions that give the weight limits for those triggers - probably not a good idea to try to set lighter than they were designed for - I am sure there are speciality triggers rated for as light of pull as you want - just not certain how you would intend to deal with the safety or the bolt lock function ...

I'm still researching this, as the last gunsmith I used wasn't able to solve it, and that was surprising to me. Maybe it was an issue of his motivation.

Likely goes with what kind of cocking piece that is used on your rifle. The Parker Hale 1200 Super here, has a flat bottom cocking piece - I did not check on the 1200 TX - I am quite sure that the M98k all used a "V" cutout on the bottom of their cocking piece. If I was attempting to do as you, I would order the 98FN one. But I also have spare cocking pieces here of both styles. I think that is the difference on the Timney m98 triggers? A Parker Hale Safari Super that is here, also used the flat bottom cocking piece - but I think those are pretty much directly swappable with the "V" bottom ones??

I've found the adjustment procedure, am going to try and clean it all and adjust the pull weight before moving on.
 
OP - there is and has been a number of Parker Hale mauser based rifles here - the 1200 TX says that on the top of its barrel. But I have yet to find a Parker Hale that says "1200" on the receiver - I think I have started thread on CGN asking how to ID them. I have others that are marked Safari Super and Safari De Luxe on the left receiver side wall - but none marked as "1200" - how did you identify yours?? What should I look for?

If it is 98 Mauser based (commercial) it will be a 1200. if it has a clip, it will be a 1200C. The 1100 was built on a slightly different (read cheaper) action. Incidentally, the majority of the later versions are all built on a Santa Barbara manufactured commercial 98 action. Made in Spain, and shipped to England to be built into rifles. I have heard of them usuing some Yugo actions, but I have not owned or even seen one of those yet. - dan
 
Is perhaps not so straight forward - can see picture below - is apparently a Parker Hale "commercial" mauser action - solid left side, no charger lip or charger slot on rear bridge. Does not have the word "Spain" on side of receiver rear tang, nor any evidence that it has been ground or scratched off, as I have seen on Voere rifles. You can see "Safari Super" engraved on the side wall - "Safari" in Italics. This one had "soldered on" Parker Hale scope mount bases, until I removed them. Until recently I had a similar one that read "Safari De Luxe" on the left side wall. I have seen ads for Parker Hale 1000, 1100 and 1200 in various older magazines, older catalogues - but other than the stock styling, I have not been able to tell how to tell one from other. What would I look for to know a difference between 1200 and 1100 if the action was out of the stock??

I have replaced the P/H trigger with a Timney on several Safari Deluxe 308 Norma Magnums.
Very easy, and straight forward swap. IIRC, they were the 98FN triggers. Dave.

All the Super Safaris I have ever seen have been 98 Mauser commercial actions. And no, you often don't see Spain engraved or stamped on them. - dan
 
I believe the 1000 and 1100 designations were added in the c.1980 period.

Originally the Parker Hale 1200 was the commercial (no stripped clip thumb cut) Mauser 98 action as manufactured by FN, Zastava and Santa Barbara.

Initially i believe that the rebuilt and scrubbed k.98k actions were designated as the model 1000 until PH ran out of them circa 1966, and introduced the model 1200 - action sourced from??? The vast majority are Santa Barbara (Spainish military arsenal).

Ive had a couple of the military based ones, both were in 30-06. The bottom metal on one was simply polished up military bottom metal, the other had a commercial style drop box. - dan
