I'm just looking for opinions on why the following happened.

I purchased a Savage Axis II 308 and a box of Nosler 150gr BT.

Went to the range and the first round got stuck chambering it. It was out of the chamber by +/- 1/8-1/16", couldn't get the bolt back, so managed (with a bit of force) to get the bolt set. Fired the round off, but was jammed now. Managed to get the bolt off the casing, which was stuck in the chamber. Had to use a cleaning rod and some force to bash the casing out or the chamber. Tried a second round, same thing.

So to troubleshoot, I purchased some Sako 150gr and it slipped in and out like it should. While at the range dialing the rifle in, I was discussing this with another shooter and he was shooting reloaded 308 and gave me a round to try. Jammed like the previous issue. I gave him one of the Nosler rounds and it chambered fine in his rifle.

So, 2 out of 3 types of ammo jammed in the chamber.

I did contact Savage and am shipping the rifle to them for examination. (Just a pet peeve but brand new rifle and I have to pay shipping to have it looked at). Just wanted to get some input and thoughts as to why this would happen. Oh, I also through the calipers on the rounds and they all seemed within range of spec.

Thanks
Nigel

Im not an expert so dont know if this will help but on my buddy savage he put a new scope mount on the gun and the screws were too long and sat down inside stopping the bolt from fully closing my about an 1/8

Oh God. Did you send it to Gretch Outdoors? Are they still the warranty place in Canada for Savage? If so, good luck... they do not have a good reputation for properly diagnosing problems or getting your stuff fixed in a timely manner...

Kinda sounds like you've got an overly tight chamber. Just to clarify, you shot some of that 150gr sako ammo without issue? Or did you just test to see if it would get stuck?

Thanks for the input. This was new out of the box, came with a scope on it.....so not sure. Appreciate the input for sure.

I sent it through to Savage Arms (Canada). Hopefully it is quick and easy :)
Thanks

OP, good luck if your rifle is going to Grech, anyone that has experienced Grech's warranty repairs will be very surprised if it's 'quick'.
One experience with him was enough to never buy anything he provides warranty for.
