Want to hunting this automne, need your advise.

hi all,

I am planning to go hunting by the end this year for first time, after some researchs, I focus a Marlin 336ss 30-30 or a Marlin 336C 30-30.

Is this a good caliber/rifle for hunting deer?

I called SIR and Wolverine, they don't have in stock, and I might wait as long as 6 months to get it. Do somebody know where have them in stock?

Perfectly good deer rifles. No reason to buy new. Watch the EE, keep an eye on local shops, surely you will find one long before next fall.
 
thats a shame about SIR, they have pretty much the lowest price on these rifles by far.
try LeBaron perhaps? although even with a $25 LeBaron Club Card's 10% discount, it will still end up being about $100 more than SIR's regular price.
 
Good rifles for deer and again watch the EE. But have you considered a winchester ? Or perhaps a bolt action. For a first rifle a bolt is simple accurate and reliable. Also they are very versatile and can be had in all kinds of configurations to suit your needs.

What type of hunting are you planning ? ( In a stand, still hunting etc ... )
What ranges will you be shooting at ?
 
Excellent choice for a first rifle, but I'm a Marlin nut... You will probably want to move on to a bolt rifle later to increase your range.

Try Wholesale Sports to find a Marlin they should have the SS and C for you. Other than that as said, look for used in shops or here in the EE but the stainless model is quite recent so you probably won't find a used one yet. The C models are fairly common.

Hi bylogic, good rifle choice, I have the 336XLR in 30-30 myself. You mention reloading, which is fine but how about trying Hornady's Leverevolution 165gr. ammo. It's awesome stuff and not much more expensive than Winchester grey box.

I got both, 336SS for me, and 336C for a friend who still waiting his pal.

I'd be careful about reloading so early in your hunting career - you want to be alive and well come automne. Particularly when reloading for a tube fed lever action - best to have someone give you direct supervision. Dont rely upon the internet for reloading advice!
 
I started reloading by buying a Lee Challenger kit and teaching myself. ;)

It's not a big deal Bylogic, les directions sont egalement en francais - il sera facile. (Merci bablefish de le traduction). :cool:
