Bushnell 6500 high end target LR scopes for 2008

At very long last, Bushnell has seen the light and will produce 30mm scopes catering to the LR target shooting crowd. They have announced a new 6500 series with will have 6.5X range of mag. Various models can be viewed at opticstalk.com.

There are a variety of models that will be offered ALL with upwards of 100min of elevation adjustments. Different reticles are also slated for production.

The target market is NightForce, S&B, Mk4 Leupolds, new Sightrons.

Pricing is MSRP from $700 to 900. Potentially a much less expensive option then the Nightforce with equal performance. Nightforce and Bushnell Elite come from the same/similar Japanese manf.

Sightron is also going after the same market with some high mag variables with lots of elevation. Two versions to be released later spring summer 2008.

Can't wait for the SHOT show releases. Initial pics of the Bushnell is very good. I am hoping that Nikon announces some new stuff too.

Finally looks like quality large adjustment, top glass scopes are moving down in price.

Will post tests once I get my paws on some of these...

I just read the thread on opticstalk, the SWAFA guy says the 2.5-16 will have 60 moa adjustments and the 4.5-30 will only have 38 moa, not the 80-100 initially quoted.
 
Was seriously bummed when I saw that update. Hope to get some firm specs shortly and will post.

If Bushnell goes with the lesser amounts of elevation change, that will be another huge mistake but then they may be limited by their new fancy erector set up.

I have to agree...anyone looking at these scopes will need more than 38 MOA adjustment for the higher magnification scopes.....bummer! I will wait for the Bushnell specs to be released officially though.

Max, you might want to see which scope that product number is related to. Not quite the LR target scope we are looking for.

Bushnell has a horrid history of making great scopes with low elevation adjustments. True, you can use ALL of the adjustment range without loosing optical quality but it would be nice to have more.

There was little reason why their new 30mm tactical couldn't be made with more the 45 min of elevation.

If this new 30X 6500 series scope only has 38min, it will be a dud.

I only get 43.75min of elevation with my Bushnell Elite Tactical 6x24x50. Not quite up to advertised specs. I hope they dont lose room for elevation due to a higher magnification. I want the best of both worlds:p
 
If it has a side paralax adjustment you will get considerably less elevation than the bell stlye paralx this is due to the erector set

And to add to that, with a side parallax you MUST adjust all the way to the infinity stop then carefully turn back decreasing distance without going past. If you go past your setting you must return all the way to the infinity stop and start over. Not a big deal but you must remember to do it. The higher the magnification the higher parallax error you will have. On a personal note, I always overcorrect down elevation and left windage then re-correct by moving up and right.

There will a few high elevation/windage adjustment scopes coming in 2008. They will be side focus as well. Sightron is the next one to be released.

The LR series from Leupold has some of the most adj range and they are side focus too. 30mm scope tubes are needed to give the erector setup used in a variable scope room to move. Fixed scopes can get away with 1" tubes and still offer lots of adj.

As to the parallax two step boogie, that's a problem with poor engineering. Sorry to say but the worst offender is Leupold.

I have no issues with the side focus Bushnell Elite 4200 and Nikon scopes I have used.

So far, I have heard no concern from IOR, S&B and Nightforce owners either.
