Remington did not Bbl code stamp from 1999-2001.
The Bbl code stamps were on the box label.

All 40X Repeater receivers whether stainless or blued receiver are cut for stripper clips.

.222,.223 stripper clips are easily manufactured from 5.56/M16 10rd stripper clips.

I've manufactured & used the above in my 40 XB & 40 XC 223's since the mid 90's.

40X repeater trigger groups are basically a modified 700 trigger group.

OP,
If you can acquire some Sierra 65gr HPBT ahead of some IMR4895 powder that .222 Rem's 1:14" twist Bbl will surprise you for a "heavy projectile" in that twist.

Inspect the bottom forward/pull weight #6 screw hole to see if there are 2 prick punch marks to keep the .100" ball bearing in the housing IF the modified 700 to 40X Repeater trigger # 8 screw is removed.

Thanks. It’s an illusion. The barrel is centered with a typical target gun free float. Will try to get some 53’s.

Thanks Dan. I have some 65gr Sierras but they are too long. Maybe the 60 gr HP Or 63 gr SP might be worth a try if I can find those.

Beauty rifle, congrats on the great acquisition! I have a Sako Vixen in 222 and it shoots lights out with 50-53 gr bullets, anything heavier is just a waste of time and components.

Just curious, are you going to use this for varmints or strictly for target? Would a 52gr match hollow point or similar berger bullet be more accurate than ballistic tips?

The rifle is long, and weighs nearly 13# so it wont be packed around. It would be a perfect to setup on a bench in a gopher field. Or just as a range toy. I need to get a larger sampling of 22 cal bullets but you know how that goes these days. Paying over 50cents for a 50 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip is getting up there. I haven't looked at Sierra or Berger yet.

In both my 222's the 52 gr hp bullets are more accurate than 50 or 55 gr ballistic tips. Not by a lot, but it is noticeable. So far, the hornady 52 gr match bullets have given me my best groups. - dan

Thats really nice. I love browning safari rifles with the sako actions. I have all the heavy weights. I target shoot with them, and covet them but I would trade any one for a gun such as that.

I agree. My 222 shoots the NBT 40's really well but they are expensive. My 22-250 shoots 53 Hornady FB Match really well and they are 30% + cheaper so I will be trying those in me 222 soon.

The US National Match course of fire required reloading in the rapid fire strings. That is why Remington and Winchester target rifles could be purchased with the cut for stripper clips.

Yet it does not have irons sights.. So has this rifle been rebarrelled? Or the same action was used whether it was to have sights or not?

The stock is cut out for a receiver sight and the front sight would clamp on to the barrel. End user can choose sights or scope.
