My Remington Holy Grail

SAKO brass, R-P 7 1/2 SR BR primers, 22.5 grs. of either N322 (Scottish Nobel-made H322) or 19.5 grs. IMR4198 (both good for calm conditions or 22.5 grs. of Norma 200 (in windy conditions), topped with a 52 gr. Euber, Fowler, Cook or Berger HPFB bullet kissing the lands.

Not recommendations, but it's what I used in 2 sleeved & blue-printed Remington 700's for BR back almost 40 years ago before I went to 6 PPC's; 1 a Light Varmint, the other a Heavy. Won a few matches & came within a hair's breadth of a screamer (a 5-shot group beginning with a 0 after the decimal point) a few times, but no cigar.

This many years later & I still haven't perfected my flag reading ability.

That is a dandy! Reminds me of the 40X .222 Remington Magnum I had in grade 11 and 12....first rifle I bought for myself. But mine was a single shot and not stainless. It liked Sierra 52 gr bench rest hollow point bullets a lot. Long gone, traded in on a M52E Winchester .22LR when I shot on the college rifle team 50 yrs ago.

I have one of those 40x rifles in 222 Rem Mag. Very useful cartridge. - dan

Yes it was a nice surprise. I’ve been to the range several times trying to fine tune some loads but the conditions have been terrible. Wasn’t worth shooting it. So I wait... now it’s a blizzard.

For some reason Remington made 223 40XB repeaters with blue receivers and 7.62 40XB repeaters with stainless steel receivers
I have two of each in McMillan stocks

The 40x repeaters in McMillan stocks look excellent. One day I’ll find one. The small caliber stuff is a bonus considering the cost to operate and ease of use.
