Well.... I'm in the market to do some switching around, and upgrade my main hunting rifle scope. I'm looking to keep the pricey in around the $1k mark.

A friend has suggested the Swarovski Z3 (he says 3-9x42, I like the 4-12x50). You guys have any other suggestions in that range? I know there was a Zeiss model that was briefly mentioned, but I don't recall which one.

Thanks!

Ocassionally youll see Zeiss Dialyt 3-12x50 with 30mm main tube. Awesome scope with great low lite glass and really nice light package. Theyre usually around the 900-1000$ mark on the EE

Definitely the Z3, and the BRH reticle, take your pick as to the 3-10 or 4-12, 3-10 is what I put on my Ruger #1 in 7-08. If I could have got the old Zeiss Conquest 3-9 Z600 still, that would have been fine too.

Well... Decisions have been made. I couldn't resist when I saw that Prophet river had a draw entry when purchasing a swarovski scope. 3-10x42 for the win! Should be here today I hope.

One of the largest optics dealers in the country is near where I live and when I was picking out a spotting scope last summer we ran through a gauntlet of models from high end manufacturers.

The salesman was wearing a shirt promoting Zeiss, but ironically the words he spoke did not support the brand.

He told me of story after story where Zeiss warranty was slow and petty. Zeiss warranty was slow and they look for any excuse not to support the warranty.

Swarovski was just the opposite and had a reputation for going above and beyond just fixing the reported problem. Swarovski repairs were without hassle and were done quickly and better than expected.

Additionally my wife is the office manager for one of the busiest ophthalmologists in the country. She has come home with all sorts of complaints of frustration over their customer service and billing practices regarding Zeiss lenses for cataract surgery. It got to the point that the doctor no longer offers Zeiss to patients.

While Zeiss does make a nice product, their customer service obviously sucks and I would not recommend the brand on this basis alone.

I'm not saying you need to spend Swaro bucks for the best of breed support, but Zeiss is clearly the bottom of the barrel. Pretty much all other brands will fall somewhere in between

Obviously your speaking from experience which is much different than,Stories Ive heard. Ive only owned three different Zeiss optics and havent experienced any problems. However a good shooting buddy of mine has dealt with Swarovski on an occasion with a used set of binos and the consumer relations and warranty were impeccable. They even offered an upgrade on his older model binos for a very slight monetary value.
