Haul of more than 1,000 specimens includes over 400 protected species from polar bears to Bengal tigers

Police in Spain have seized one of the largest hauls of taxidermy animals in Europe as they investigate potential smuggling, after a warehouse in Valencia was found to contain stuffed rhinos, polar bears, elephants and other animals.

The Guardia Civil discovered more than 1,000 specimens in a 50,000 sq metre (538,000 sq ft) industrial warehouse in Bétera, Valencia, on Wednesday, it said in a statement on Sunday.

The haul included more than 400 protected species, including some that have been extinct in the wild, such as the scimitar oryx, or severely threatened, such as the Bengal tiger. Others included lions, leopards, cheetahs and lynx.

The warehouse owner was under investigation for smuggling and crimes against flora and fauna, police said. He has not been arrested.

Investigators estimate the stuffed animals are worth €29m (£24.2m).

The discovery was the culmination of an investigation by Valencia police’s nature protection team that began in November 2021 when agents became aware of a possible private collection in Bétera.

Here is a 3 minute video of the warehouse

This is seems right out of a Hollywood movie or theme park

Surprised there wasn't a .577 nitro express pictured to go along with this

I wonder how many other big time collectors have warehouses like this filled to the rafters with spectacular taxidermy like this?

If you have the money you can do anything. There are numerous poachers that got kicked out of africa after they were reported.
That is quite the collection of elephant tusks. I read a book 40 years ago where it was selling for $1000 an inch.

Amazing collection yes but Wondering the age of some of those and the chances they are all taken at a time when legal
or in procession by legal means

Ask the average Canadian what they think of African big game hunting. Come back when you have a response.

So your response to claiming this affects more than the guilty people involved is to tell me to survey the avg Canadian? Why don't you Google basic logic and get back to me with a valid response.

The actions of one, do not taint the many

This is what i was thinking
How do they know they were indangered when they were shot. Or from a country that even follows those rules.

Oh well, now he has to go shoot and collect them all again.

Being that this is the culmination of a long investigation into smuggling, I’d imagine there are a few illegal specimens.

This kind of stuff reflects poorly on all hunters and sportsmen.

I would guess, if these mounts are of a certain age, it might have been legal to collect them at that time.
