Ammo Supply

Just went to grab a few boxes of slugs at a local sporting good store. Guy at the counter said they usually have plenty of extra ammo in the back, but now, everything they had is at the counter.

Also, he told me that Winchester said they wouldn't produce any ammo for the commercial market this year. So it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

David

I would be surprised if the Winchester comment is factual. But people at local gun stores often say strange things.

I've done allot of 'Trading', but haven't bought retail for a year. Are 12 gauge slugs & 00 Buck, about equal $ value? thnx

not sure if this is the best spot to post this info received this from gun club

Note from a member:

Bass Pro /Cabelas are rationing ammo. 5 boxes per customer per calibre. They were told yesterday no more ammo deliveries for several months They advise to get your hunting ammo now because it may not be available later. There is almost no 7mm Rem Magnum available anywhere and 30-06 is low inventory.

this would be Toronto/ Barrie and possibly all Canada

Hmmm coincidence with May 1st? with "nothing" being said officially from those who should be perhaps something is about to be sprung.

Fail to plan, plan to fail.

I am set for the next 3-5 years.

This shortage will not affect me.

X2

Over the past three years been taking advantage of CGN's EE and ####### on those switching from 308WIN to 6.5. When it comes both factory ammo and reloading I'm set for life.

I have to admit it was an addiction stocking up on the 308 stuff.

Most people never will. I am sitting on a double digit amount of pounds of powder, a healthy 4 figure sum of projectiles and primers...all purchased before 2020. My only regret is not getting more although i have plenty. LOL.

The crazy thing is that the stuff was just sitting there in the stores and I guess folks figured it would always be there when they wanted to buy in dribs and drabs. If I wasn’t buying in the local stores I was buying at good prices and paying a decent price for shipping. Of course that was back in the day when there were numerous shippers and shipping wasn’t an arm and a leg for 60 pound loads. The courier guys asked if I was doing my own brakes with these heavy boxes they were delivering lol!
You only have to go through one dry/expensive spell to start singing the praises of buy it cheap and stack it deep as others have noted!

Other than 22 shells and shotgun I have not bought ammo for any rifles for over 40 years. Finding reloading components is getting though but not impossible. Deals pop up now and then on the EE and grab powder and primers whenever you can. I am down to only two life time supplies lol....

Bass Pro in Vaughan has been cleaned out for several months already. Its so bad, they removed the shotgun ammo cabinet aisle altogether. Cabela’s in Barrie had good inventory back in November but I haven't been there since.

As others have mentioned, I’m also stocked up for several waterfowl seasons to come. I’ve always stocked up when I find a good deal. No such thing as too much ammo

untill it turns into a permanent style of shortage

And a special message from us stashers :)

There is lots of components for sale on EE (although some guys are getting pretty greedy)

There was lots of ammo & components for sale on the Landsborough auction that just concluded Sunday.
Some went pretty reasonable, some not so...

Keep an eye on the auctions and the guns shows ans of course the EE

He says supply is not the issue so much as it is impossible to transport anything since canpar shut us all out. We are in rural BC with no UPS depot so having ammo or powders/primers shipped here ain't happening.

The loss of Canpar as a shipper is a pain to retail customers who want a box or two of ammo, but for anyone trying to move reasonable quantities it shouldn't be an issue. Getting a 400lbs pallet from Toronto to Calgary is less than $200 with an LTL shipper, and most of them carry dangerous goods without batting an eye.

Look up the coverage area for Rosenau Transport. People in the smaller towns sometimes use them as a common courier because they have no minimum parcel weight and will go anywhere from Vancouver Island to the Manitoba border.

Long ago I made a commitment to myself never to be short on ammo. I dont need to by any ammo this year. Given im primarily a hunter, so I dont burn through it quickly on paper, but I never wanted to be in a situation where I had to stop at a store first to go hunting.

Depends on where you buy. I'm seeing at least an extra 2/4$ per box of 5 around nb. Buckshot at canadian tire is 14.99 for federal 00

well here in 100 mile house BC there are no options to freight ammo/powder/primers here with the loss of Canpar.
Even our 2 local shops that sell ammo have to make arrangements to pick up certain goods at the closest UPS warehouse.... so Prince George 6 hrs north or kamloops 3 hrs n change south.
It's possible that some stuff can be delivered by the reps in person from the main wholesalers that carry ammo like Redl Sports and possible Inland Pacific if they sell ammo. Getting orders from North Sylvia or Bell .... forget it.

WTF does it matter if the guy was native? man you guys are some ignorant folks around here

I was in my local LGS the other day and cleaned him out of 7mm rem mag 160gr partitions....... and guess what? I'm a fuggen native too so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
man people sure piss me off on this site with their veiled and not so veiled racist pig remarks.

It boggles my mind that so many in the gun community are somehow caught off guard by ammo shortage. For the last decade or so there's been an ammo shortage. Some of my friends don't have enough ammo to last them 2 or 3 hunting seasons. I keep telling them it's only going to get worse. Some of them listen. Some are apparently fine paying double or triple what they could have gotten it for.

Personally I don't feel comfortable unless I've got enough for 10+ years of practice and hunting rounds.
