I'm looking for recommendations and input into a classic style rifle. Something with nice wood with decent fit and finish I can use for years and pass on. I've noticed many of my rifles are plastic and polymor. Preferably under $2000, but I'll spend up to $3000 if it's perfect. I thought about maybe anshutz 1782, Steyr classic. I'm interested in a BRNO effect, but I could not find a source to buy them from. Thank you in advance for any suggestions and ideas.

If you are interested in the BRNO effect (no longer produced) check out the Haenel Jager 9, it has a tilting block rather than simple break action. Also out of production but CSC might still have a couple. A little over 2k

Win model 70, Mannlicher Schoenauer 1950/52, a nice Mauser sporter (check out the Voeres at sporteque), older SAKO L or A series, Kimber classic. All within or below your price range

I don't know where you live, however I have seen some really nice rifles at gun shows, a few yesterday at the Calgary Gun Show. One in particular was a model 70 action, Heym barrel, all metal was rust-blued and the wood was really nice, AAA grade. Fit and finish was perfect. Chambered in the good old 30-06, asking price: $2,700, in mint condition.

I'm on the east coast in Nova Scotia, but that sounds beautiful. I looked at the Voere mentioned above and they are very intriguing. Look like a great deal too

If you shop around you might find one customized for cheaper but adding the features on the voere models with an old husqy FN would cost your budget not including the stock if you wanted a new barrel. I recently went down a rabbit hole of pricing out a build on a 98 and came to that conclusion. I probably have 1200 in parts and no receiver or stock, some of the parts are voere manufactured; you save a lot by buying their guns assembled.

I have not personally owned one but have handled them and they seem well put together. One complaint I have heard is that some are made on Santa Barbara receivers but I can’t speak to how they are refinished and if this truly affects the final product after that process.

If dgradinaru shows up I know he was selling one on the e.e and has owned a boatload of Mauser sporters so his opinion would be valuable.

The tang safety is appealing to me for an extra ~300 bucks. I can’t imagine what the smith bill would be to have a Mauser converted to that; more than 300 I imagine

Already said. Win Mod 70 super grade. It does not get any better or more classic. +/- $2000 these days, depending on the wood grade you choose.

I did some googling, and it seems that all of the 2155/2165 are made with newly manufactured Santa Barbara actions. I'm wondering if that's why they are priced lower than Anshutz, Steyr, etc

Guns shows in western Canada are fun with many great quality rifles. accompany with conversation. Many are custom made, and from the old countries in Europe. Many will say that guns are over-priced, however I don't see it that way; older firearms were better made from yester years. If you're a person who loves old lever action rifles, well, that's the place to go. Many collectors of Winchesters were on display of great monetary value.
I prefer the older European rifles along with custom wood and blue rifles. Older Weatherby's catch my eye as well, especially the older 5 panel Lazermarks........ a 240 Weatherby with a 26" barrel I would purchase in a heart-beat!

I'm a huge steyr fan. The newer models (CLII and SM12) are really nice and improved on the the one downside to the pro-hunter: the stock. They don't have a massive distribution network in canada. I think Nordic Marksman in the current distributor and they don't have much stock.

There's a really nice SM12 in 7mm rem on gunpo$t. Buy it so I don't have to. Wood looks really nice.
Prophet river has a nice CLII in 7mm rem

you're like a day late for the nice weatherby's in 30-06 that prophet river just had out for a very decent price.

A heads up that weatherby has 150 of these stocks left over that they are going to be making into Lazermarks (as soon as they get bottom meatal) . Of course, none for the 6 lug like the 240 Wby :(
We ordered them in

MLMM257WR6O 257 WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

MLMM270WR6O 270 WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

MLMM300WR6O 300 WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

MLMM340WR6O 340 WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

MLMM653WR6O 6.5-300 WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

MLMM7MMWR6O 7MM WBY MKV LAZERMARK 26IN

I emailed Nordic Marksman to see of they can order in a Steyr CLII in 308. They look elegant and the reputation and price is great.

The Weatherby Lazermark's look absolutely gorgeous, but I have a feeling they are considerably more than I would like to spend.

The Voere look great, but I did see plenty of concerns online over the Spanish made action. Maybe the older models had the most issues?

Ruger #1A
Winchester model 70 featherweight or super grade
Brno 21 or 47
Browning hi power safari
Hoyt’s ruger wins the 30-06 thread but the above are more obtainable.

Ruger no 1s are nice but at the price being asked for them these days you can get a lower end used euro single that weighs much less, takes down and comes in classic rimmed calibres

I wouldn’t say no to a good deal on one though

but I did see plenty of concerns online over the Spanish made action.

I’m not sure if these complaints are specifically about voere and Santa Barbara receivers but I have heard complaints about Spanish Mausers meaning 1893 military ones. I’ve heard complaints about the finish of Santa Barbara receivers and potentially metallurgy but it’s my understanding voere hand selects and refurbishes the actions they use. I don’t have a dog in the fight but my friend has a nice one ordered from sporteque and their small parts seem well done.
