I'm in the market for a top tier shotgun.

Lots of Benelli's to be found but the 1301's are rare as hens teeth.

Thoughts?

Anyone know where to get one?

Retailers on here are often getting them. Thought the TSE had some. As for a question about the platform, I much prefer it to the M4 - with the sporter stock, or pistol grip.

Super fast and handy, ctcs had the tube extensions in stock a little while ago,

I think the 21" competition with a reflex sight would've been a better option looking back because I've developed a disdain for the chunky ghost ring sights and I already have an m4 :onCrack:

Folding stock on the 1301 will make it shorter than the m4 by a nice margin

I got my 1301 from CSC, and the mag Tube extension from SJ hardware, just a month ago.

The Beretta is much lighter than the m4. I really like the field stock on it compared to the m4 pistol grip, feels like it shoulders faster, and easier to fit in a pack with less to snag on stuff.

The Beretta eats any and all 12 guage shells I've fed it, with no single hiccups.. Even from brand new. Cycles much better with light loads than the M4 does.

Although price wasn't an issue for me, it is also $1000 cheaper than the m4...

No debate that the Benelli M4 would be the most robust, heavyweight, drop-from-a-helicopter reliable gun you could get for military use with heavy loads of buck and slugs..

For me however, I love the Beretta.. light weight, easy to point, compact to carry, Made in Italy, and eats any cheap ammo I can find for training with it.

And the $1000 difference between the two guns can afford a lot of cheap ammo for training.

A few posts showed some Quality issues on the 1301 and subsequent warranty challenges so how are the new production ones coming out?

One reason why I passed on the M4

The one guy crying about the lack of understanding that the front sight has some windage adjustability is not an "issue" on Beretta's part.

I'm in the market for a top tier shotgun. ...Thoughts? ...

They're really quite different, and there are obvious pros and cons with each. The difference in weight and handling points to a clear winner for me and my application.

If you can't handle both and it's not so clear to you, and if you're serious, then I wouldn't hesitate to buy both and keep one. If you buy smart, it won't cost you all that much and you'll have the satisfaction of being sure about your decision. I'd hate to spend $2k on a shotgun and always be wondering if it was the right choice.

Or keep both...

Both the Beretta and Benelli come from the same factory, when I was contemplating both for my first SG I wasn't wondering about my decision and wether it was right. Both SG's are stellar and cannot be denied, I chose the 1301 because of the "weight, ease of take down, folding stock option, Hydraulic Buffer Tube option" things the M4 could not provide as well as a few other nuances.

After the mods the 1301 weighs in at 9.6 pounds with mag loaded(8.2pds w hyd buffer tube removed), balanced nicely w hyd buffer tube more muzzle weight(not a bad thing when hyd buffer removed). Although it still doesn’t "recover" the sight picture as good as the " hyd buffer tube".

It is not the same as a Benelli M4.. if it was, military units would be making the switch.

It's not the same, but for the same MSRP you can have a B1301T that in my opinion is better. Try putting a folding stock and hydraulic buffer tube on that M4.

Couple great videos by 2 different highly knowledgeable people on the 1301 BUT in Canada you can have full capacity mossberg 88/500/590 and Remington 870 going semi knocks you down to 5

You can get a +1 in Canada for 3" shells, so you get 6x 2 3/4 in the tube. You can also ghost load an additional round, and have one in the chamber. Then get a Matchsaver ... I have 6 +1 +1 in my 1301 tactical legally
