Semi Auto in 6mm ARC

I imagine you'd need a 7.62x39 bolt with a bolt face depth of 0.136" and not 0.125". I think the MCR and WK 7.62 bolts are 0.125" but don't quote me on that. After that you'd probably have to modify the gas system length to a rifle length piston - I think there is an option for that but I forget who makes it.

Found a 6.5 Grendel bolt at TNA.

Just need to figure out who could headspace a barrel on an upper.

You're right. Rifle length gas system would be a must.

Maybe mid-length?

Alberta just put a bounty on feral pigs, so I'm thinking this might make a decent hog hammer.

IBI can do you up a 6 ARC barrel, I believe. I've been wanting to do one (or a 6.5 Grendel) on a 180 for a while but have been waiting for a version with more of an enclosed upper to come along.

gen II wk still has an open charging handle slot. not good guns for pushing bush.

6mm arc works w a 7.62x39 bolt if you can get barrel headspaced accordingly. as does 6.5 grendel if you go that way. i've got an ibi barrel coming built to those specs.

there was some concern that the tna 6.5g bolt was just a 7.62x39 bolt w material removed and not re-hardened after.

you can get a rifle-length gas system from tna, or third echelon sells a mid-length piston for a wk.

7.62x39 mags will work.

if you contact ibi right now they may still have the barrel i returned to them (wrong gas length) - 6.5G, headspaced at 0.125" for 7.62x39 bolt, 20" long, HB profile, rifle-length.

that barrel, wk180 in 7.62x39, and the tna rifle-length gas system and good to go. you might have to open up the gas port a bit until it runs. and some duct tape over the charging handle slot until the hogs show up.

I'm thinking the R18 or the Crusader 9 .223 upper (which seems to basically be a WS-MCR with an enclosed upper and non-recip charging handle). At least those are the routes I'm thinking of going. Get a .223 and then do a 2nd upper in 6 ARC or 6.5 Grendel.

Man I would love to have a 6mm arc rifle!!

It was a real question - I understand they are essentially pests, so would / could someone take them with .223/5.56?
Is it even an appropriate caliber?.

I understand.

Let me put it this way, hunting pigs is the practical justification for potentially embarking on a probably expensive rifle build in a boutique caliber.

I may, or may not ever hunt pigs, though the bounty in Alberta and being in relative proximity to the applied areas does make it more likely.

A job for every tool, I guess.

I've had no issues at all with the type 2 Grendel bolt from TNA. Love the Grendel cartridge, a 6 ARC would make for a wicked hog/deer hammer.
Curious to see what you decide on, a few of us may want to follow in your footsteps.

It's always a bit of a long game for me when it comes to rifle builds. I'm not a rich guy with money to burn, but I do enjoy having a project gun on the books every year or so.

I have a little bit more research to do before I make a decision on which direction I want to go.

Chased down some Hornady Black ammo from my LGS and some 7.62x39 mags.

Reading about a lot of issues with 6.5 Grendel mags for the 6mm ARC round down south.

I'm going to shoot a Gen 2 WK-180 this week and see if that's the platform I want to build off of.
