What do you guys think of this shed?

So I went out shed hunting on Friday. Walked a million miles and found 21 sheds. Nothing really good though except for this one old cracked up chalky, tucked away in a shady, secluded spot. I immediately thought it had potential to be off the mule deer I shot in 2017. It was found about 3/4 mile away from where I shot the deer so easily close enough. I judged the deer to be 6 1/2 when I shot him and this shed would have to be off him when he was probably 4 1/2 I would guess? It looks like it could be old enough to have been sitting there that many years. It could also just be off some other buck with similar genetics. I found it interesting any way.

certainly looks like a family resemblance...but I'm thinking a shed that has layed for that long should readily have rodent chew evidence...also quite possible it is a descendent of your buck that has the same hereditary tendencies

Usually rodents get to them but there aren't any squirrels in the area and I have found many lichen covered sheds and dead heads in this area with no chew marks. For whatever reason nothing seems to be chewing sheds in this area. Different story up in the forest where I also shed hunt. If they're on the ground for more than a few days they get chewed lol.

Not sure about the shed although there is a resemblance, but that's a very nice deer.

I’d say you are quite possibly correct. The shed, imo, looks plausible and only 2-3 years old. I’ve found sheds that haven’t been chewed after many, many years. I guess it depends on the area. Hard to ever say definitely, unless you know some biologists hahaha
Pretty cool all the same.
My mother in law once shot a muley buck in early October. Walked around the corner of the coulee and found the matching pair from the buck she just dropped. Only slightly less mass in the sheds, but nearly perfect in all other regards. Pretty cool how things can turn up when you’re out and about.
