Is Black tip Ammo legal in Canada?

what does black tip ammo mean? steel core? armour piercing? i know you can buy boxes of "48 Cartridges Armour Piercing 303 inch w.mk1" without issue

and 90% of 7.62x39 is steel core

Edit, if i read correctly (and i have been known to not) it says you canT have steel core handgun ammo but you can have steel core rifle ammo?

what about 7.62x25?

I checked and didn't see much on black tip. I know it's AP but the law says anything designed to be shot out of a semi auto handgun or revolver is prohibited. Makes no mention of a rifle

That's because the only prohibited ammunition in that case (Armor piercing) is stuff for use in handguns. If your ammo has incendiary or explosive stuff in it that is also going to make it prohibited even if it is for rifles.

PART 5
Prohibited Ammunition

Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 10

1 Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a commonly available semi-automatic handgun or revolver and that is manufactured or assembled with a projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to be capable of penetrating body armour, including KTW, THV and 5.7 x 28 mm P-90 cartridges.

2 Any projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered to ignite on impact, where the projectile is designed for use in or in conjunction with a cartridge and does not exceed 15 mm in diameter.

3 Any projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to explode on impact, where the projectile is designed for use in or in conjunction with a cartridge and does not exceed 15 mm in diameter.

4 Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a shotgun and that contains projectiles known as “fléchettes” or any similar projectiles.

Winchester Deer Season XP is "black tipped" as in it has a black polymer tipped bullet and it is 100 percent legal.
Is that the ammo you are referring to?

Black tip has nothing to do with its prohibition. This is how rumours get started. I have multiple brands and types of hunting ammunition with black tips

He is hardly to blame for others making poor assumptions about what he asked. Black tip is a common name for AP ammunition A reasonable assumption about his question on the legality is that he is asking about AP ammunition, not hunting ammo with a black polymer tip.

Must be talking about Winchester Black Talons ?

It was replaced by Winchester Ranger T Series

Exactly the same ammo without the lubalox coating
