Who says all Vancouverites are bunny-hugging antis?

I have lived 450 miles from 100 mile house adjacent to a road guys drive 12 hours from the lower mainland to hunt and in the lower mainland and Victoria.

While I have no desire to move back to Vancouver I love visiting there; something to be said for taking the train to Richmond and fishing for salmon or walking to the breakwater and fishing for rock and ling cod, throwing out crab traps on the beach and topping off the night by going out for sushi that is 1/8th of the cost of what a meal half that cost is in a restaurant up north.

Throw a dart at a map and you can eat at a restaurant that serves that countries food. Go see any kind of live music you can imagine any night of the week. Buy anything you can imagine from almost anywhere in the world.

Not to mention the waterfowling, total lack of a noticeable winter and the um “local talent”, I don’t just think with my stomach

Boy, when was that? 1960s? Diminished populations, size limits and non-retention laws pretty much have eliminated ling cod and rockfish fishing in the Gulf of Georgia and salmon runs are so depleted that we're lucky to get a good sockeye return every four years. Even the once abundant pink salmon run flopped last go-round.

Fishing seemed good to me but apparently I never experienced it when it actually was…
