Howdy, all.

I finally jumped in to the Swedish Rolling Block lifestyle. I bought a very serviceable unit from InterSurplus. It's winging its way to me now.

From what I can tell, 8x56Rammunition is fairly rare-ish. I'm looking at Bertram brass or similar, and substantial wait, and would be firing expensive cartridges pushing bullets through a marginally serviceable bore. I've always had a soft spot in my head for the 32-40 - got quite a lot of old brass, and an ice cream pail full of bullets. Now I need a smith who can replace the barrel on my new swedish girlfriend with something that'll accept 32-40. Wouldn't hurt to do something with the wood as well - life's too short to shoot ugly guns. And I think I'd like the receiver to spend some quality time with Oskar Kob.

Who do you know who can help with this? Ideally in Alberta, but I'm more than willing to reach out there a bit if needs must.

As for a good smith... find who has your reamer that you want and go from there.
 
Ron Smith would be the obvious answer.
Has a great following with serious cast bullet shooters and old single shot actions. Gain twist rifling etc.

I had 2 of these with minty bores, both got re-barreled, one in 38-55 and the other in 40-60 Maynard. I have the full re-loading package for the 8X58RDK: RCBS dies, 2 LEE bullet moulds (8mm KAR +8mm MAX.) 25+ cases made from BELL 45-90 brass Ect. PM me if that interests you. As for gunsmiths, Steve Holborn made a 32-40 on a RB action and a Ron Smith barrel for a friend of mine 2 years ago. My friend, Buck, has made me several BPC rifles in the last few years. Both are in the Sudbury area however. Sandy Post, in Iron Bridge can re-stock your rifle.

I have been eyeing one of these for a while you can use 8x56r hungarian brass without to much trouble and then you seat just a little longer with a cast lead bullet. here is one of several articles i have read saying you can do this. https://loaddata.com/Article/LabNotes/Loads-for-the-8x58R-Danish-Krag-Jrgensen/587 take in to consideration that the load data is for a danish krag rifle but the cases will work. also the cast boolits foroums have a lot of information about reloading for the swedish rolling blocks
 
Reloading for 8x58r takes a bunch of fiddling around, I like it but it’s not everyones cup of tea. I’m using bullets pulled from 8x63 ammo so I’m happy, but cast bullets are a bit more challenging.

Speaking of Springfield based sporting rifles, I have a Meacham conversion made using a surplus Sharps .40-70 straight octagon barrel.
