Hey folks new to the forum!

Looking at a Tikka T3X superlite in 300WSM. I currently own a few other Tikkas and love them to death. But have never owned a superlite, or a rifle in 300WSM. I will be handloading for the rifle so ammo is not to big of a worry, but I would love to hear from others.

What are your thoughts on a T3X superlite?

What are your thoughts on the 300WSM as a cartridge?

Anyone heard of the the Tikka action having issues with the short and fats like the 300wsm as it is push and not control round feed?

If you have owned a T3X in 300WSM what were some factory ammo options you found worked well?

Thanks everybody and cheers from E-Town Alberta 07

Have had a 300 wsm for several years. I see no reason to try anything else. Currently reloading 200 grain accubonds. I like the superlites but have not personally used one.

I had a T3x SL in 7 rem mag and shot 175 partitions out of it. It was very accurate with the partitions and 168 accubond long range. I traded it off to help fund a more expensive rifle. If I didn't want what I have now so bad I would have kept it. I almost bought another one in 308 win but went another direction. They are nice to carry and good bang for your buck compared to the other lightweight options out there.

Tell us about the other rifles and cartridges you have experience with - Some context for comparison will be useful. What do you want the 300WSM to do that your current rifles don't do already?

A have a Sako A7 in 300wsm and synthetic stock. It is very similar to a Tikka, as I had one before the A7. Works great, it's my go to hunting rifle. Never a problem.

I have heard that these things kick like a donkey! However I currently have a barrel enroute :D that I haven't decided what to do yet. (to good a deal to pass on) The Tikka's do have a slow twist for caliber I believe I wanna say 1in11

It's not terribly pleasant to sit at a bench and bang off a couple of boxes of ammo wearing a t-shirt, but when you shoot at game, you don't feel a thing.

I have a Tikka T3 in 300wsm. I installed a limb saver recoil pad
On it. I don’t find the felt recoil much more the a 30-06. Definitely
not bad at all.
My rifle has really good accuracy with Winchester 180 accubonds and
Federal 180 nosler partitions. I’ve shot deer , moose and elk anywhere
From 40 yards out to 480. Mostly with in 100 yards.

Great question, my current line up consists of the following

Tikka t3x super varmit 243
Tikka t3x lite 308
Tikka t3 hunter stainless 270
Henry 45-70
And an assortment of 12ga shotguns

Yes I know a bit of a Tikka fan boy, cant help but love em! I have recently departed with a few

Bergara in 300 win mag
Ruger American in 6.5 creedmoor
Browning a bolt in 30-06

I have a decent experience with varrying calibers, not a ton with magnums, but I wouldn't say I'm recoil sensitive. It's not so much that I don't have or had chamberings that can do what the 300wsm does, I just kind of want one!

I had a T3 Synthetic SS in 300WSM. Wonderfully accurate, light and handled well. Recoil was..err.. noticeable.

I have a T3 stainless hunter 300 wsm from a few years back. It has a light synthetic camo stock on it. I put a limbsaver on it. I absolutely love it, was my main hunting rifle until I expanded the fleet. Deadly accurate 200-300 yds with factory Nolser Trophy 180gr. Zero feeding issues with the fat cartridges. If you're worried about recoil, shoot a few 12 ga slugs or 45-70 bear loads, then go to the 300wsm. It'll feel soft!

The tikka super lites are great guns and .300 WSM is a great chambering and a more efficient alternative to the .300 win mag in a short action form factor.

A buddy one mine has a super lite in .300 wsm, it’s light and accurate but it does kick as magnum chambered tikkas do, installing a limb saver made a big improvement and with that it’s quite manageable.

I have a browning x-bolt in .300 wsm, also light and accurate but the factory recoil pad is much better than the stock tikka pad and felt recoil was noticeably less.

You’ll be well served by the tikka no question.

I have a non-Superlite T3X it's only a 7mm Rem Mag, fairly stout recoil to it even with 150s. I agree with KaneZoR that the X-Bolt Inflex recoil pad is better on a heavy-kicking gun than the Tikka pad. There is a ridge under the pad which reduces the amount of recoil/shock absorption on the T3X and the X-bolt is softer to begin with. Both are smooth and accurate and beautifully manufactured but the X-Bolt has a few more bells and whistles which might not be needed. Both the Tikka and Browning magazines have fed WSM cases fine, the problem is generally with staggered magazines. Either will be a great tool for hunting game and familiarity with the T3X platform could be a winner.

.300 WSM though, no question there. Hammer. Fits nicely into a T3X as well. Just be aware that the 11-twist WSM will run out of spin faster than a 10-twist .300 Win Mag - a "range acquaintance" got his chamber re-cut for some extra freebore and switched to standard length Magnum mags and bolt stop to load them long but the 212s he tried keyholed on paper.

Haha, you don't need a reason at all, of course! So, this will be your only magnum rifle, currently, right? Nothing particularly wrong with the combination, but every firearm is a combination of compromises. Personally, I wouldn't choose a short magnum as my only magnum since it limits your options more than comparable long action cartridges. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like all T3x SL models have the same length action, regardless of the length of the cartridge. Personally, if I was set on a 300WSM I'd probably choose a rifle that offered a shorter action.
