Anything you hunt with a lightweight mountain rifle "goats, sheep" doesn't require a bullet any heavier than 140 grains and with a magazine length of 3" or a shade better will allow for bullets up to 160 grains as long as the bullet isn't seated past the ogive. Will the bullet be seated deep, yes it will, will there be plenty of powder, Yup, probably enough for book maximum. I've shot 154 grain hornady's in a magazine of 2.800 length with plenty of room for powder. 54 grains of reloader 17 sent the 154gr at 2900 fps from a 20" barrel.... it was a tad hot. The 280 and 7x57 do not fit in a short action and the 284win has an edge over the 7-08. The most powder I stuffed in the 284 with 120 grain bullets was 61 grains of h4831, try that with the 7-08
