hunting with a stainless barell?

I'm slowly switching all my rifles to stainless. Unless it's polished (like the pre-Hawkeye Rugers) stainless is not that reflective. Most of them have a satin or beadblasted finish that looks like a grey stick, there's lots of grey sticks in the bush.

X2 :D And I really like the gray stainless finish on my New Hawkeye.DAN>>>:D

I was looking at getting a new Hunting Rifle (30-06) and probably a Tikka T3 or the new browning X-bolt,

can you Hunt effeciently with a Stainless Barrel? is it too much glare? is the stainless Barrell better than the blued?(or just preference)

Thanks

Are you new to firearms?

The 30-06 kicks a lot in the light T3s. I'd go lower.

Dunno if they make it in the T3s, but the 25-06, 7mm-08, even the 270 would be good rounds for deer.

i currently have a weatherby vangaurd in 30-06, ive shot many of 2-3/4 and 3 inch slugs, i am not too worried about recoil, havent shot anything larger yet, but with a smaller cartridge i would not be able to take down very large game,

Not sure why you would want to use a 100 yr. old cartridge, on modern day super duper hybrid animals. My choice is a much more modern caliber, 7mm mag, for something really sweet try out the new RCMs. Leave the antiques at the road show. As for stainless, it just plain looks sweet, besides blue is old. However, when hunting in thick bush, close quarters, the barrel does show up extremely well, if your not adverse to it, a coat of flat black paint takes away the shine, comes off easy when you want, and no harm done.

Everybody knows that 100 year old cartridges cant kill deer... better run to the store and buy a 45 year old cartridge that is a little faster........:rolleyes:
