6 new F and W officer's... new Sheriffs in town

Pest control is no different than hunting game animals or birds or target shooting when it comes to discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

Exactly! Yest some people just can't seem to comprehend that the Wildlife Act applies whether you are hunting game or not. You can't legally target shoot out of the bed of a pickup, or off of the hood, and you can't discharge a firearm after legal hours, unless you are at a range with the proper approvals.

A lot of these guys take those jobs because they couldn`t make it as real LEOs ie: RCMP or big city cops. They are often hung up on their own self importance and are often over zealous, over officious and seem to enjoy their "authority" a little too much. I suspect they were the kids in school that were bullied and had their lunch money taken from them. Best to be very cautious and not give them any reason to flex their muscle on you.

Really, is that the best you can do?
I mean, the recruitment has numbers to meet and if there are 2 openings and 20 candidates then the other 18 are not good enough ?
Roight, keep drinking the de-fund the police kool-aide and anti government agenda.
Regards,
Rob.

You need a Bachelor of Science, or a degree + the Conservation Law Enforcement program which is 2 years. If you have a bachelor of science you can make better money elsewhere, and if you want in law enforcement you can work with CPS or EPS with a highschool diploma.

Well it says you can't discharge from a vehicle. And you can't have a loaded gun in a vehicle. Neither of those are specific to hunting situations - a) and b) are wildlife specific but not c) and d).

fair enough. It should be different though! Varmint/pest control on private property should be a private affair not needing government oversight/interference.

It’s a more stringent and arduous journey to become a F&W officer than it is to become a police officer.

Not certain enough to drop the gloves, but is there back story here?
Like 'Show us on the doll where the bad man touched you'?
I know a couple; one is F & W and oneis a CO...neither seems like a window licker.

Here in sask conservation officers have been short staffed since forever. Rarely see them in the field and appreciate them showing a presence when they are.
Six new recruits sent to one region suggests that there is a problem to address. My guess is that they are there to educate a demograph who’s first language is not English, not to chase Tok out of his gopher patch.

I have no problem with Game Wardens being around. I always had great conversations with them in the field. Last autumn (2021), I was hunting antelope bucks for a few days around Cypress Hills and never did bump into a Game Warden, wish I did, they are a great source of information. BTW, having a loaded rifle in a motor vehicle is illegal, unsporting, moreover, dangerous.

Our new guy seems to be a decent chap, replaces the notorious one who left suddenly after allegedly pulling his gun on someone. Probably didn't have much of a future anyway after framing Jason Nixon, only to find, after the dust settled, he was his new boss. :) He's a realtor now, probably well suited to that calling.

They dropped the 'Park Staff' in Elkwater back considerably...put more in the 'Hat. Insider info, but not gonna 'Out' him...he's a great guy.
We had 4; 3 of which were purportedly great...the other had to 'pull down his pants to brush his teeth'...about the same ratio as the rest of society IMO

I though the rest of society was 50:50 ?

I agree, I am never short of questions when I am checked. They can’t get away quick enough.

I don't disagree, but I don't make the laws I just have to folllow them. As an aside, I know of three different instances where firearms were dischaarged in vehilces, two in trucks and one in a boat.
Meeting a F&W officer when I am out hunting never bothered me in the least.....

And the argument is that this restriction isn't about hunting, it is about safety. I personally know of three accidental discharges in motor vehicles, and one child was killed in one of them. The fatality occured when a family was shooting ground squirrels out if a vehicle. I am aware of the other two incidents, because our family business repaired both vehicles, as both were disabled by the bullets.

Dad managed to put one in himself shooting Coyotes out of a Ford 1/2 ton. I would tend to agree with you.

So, based on that logic we need to ban guns, vehicles and children, right? - dan

I'd like to see more conservation officers in the field in Saskatchewan. They have huge territories, difficult working conditions, and are generally underfunded and undervalued by our Government. They are dedicated to the protection of the resource that we all enjoy. Every one that I have personally known was a good guy, genuinely trying to do their best in a difficult public service. I've never once had a problem with being checked in the field, the few times it actually happened.

I would tend to agree with stubble jumper.. I think the most dangerous part of hunting is the start and finish... it is like work isn't the dangerous part... It's the drive to and from.
The muzzle is usually pointing somewhere that is concerning at some point when mounting or dismounting from a vehicle
