Pin backing out

After shooting 2-3 mags on my Browning 1911-22 and this pin walks out. How can I prevent it from doing this. I've tried tapping it in rather hard with a pin punch but even then it walks out.

If I try flattening the outer end by hitting it on a solid surface will it not flatten the other end of the pin thereby making it more difficult to insert in the hole? It's very annoying to have to keep pushing it in while shooting for fear of losing it. It will back out 1/8"- 3/16"every couple mags.

Take the pin out, use clear nail polish and apply on both ends of the pin. Let it dry then reinstall. It will be a little sticky but more importantly it will increase the diameter a bit.

You're right.

Flatten one end of the pin parallel to the length of the pin by using a good hard punch on it, resting against an anvil. Just a tiny bit should be all you need. Or, if you've got a good vice you might be able to get the same result by squeezing one end in the jaws. Go easy, it's easy to go too far.

But it shouldn't back out in the first place, the retailer should take care of it for you.

I'll try slightly flattening one end a little but not sure the retailer would fix it as its out of warranty.

A good center center punch will make a dimple and that will help hold it in.
or a couple 3 small ones, at the out side end, not the center.

Thats 1 of the reasons I got the 380 instead.
They dont use that pin like the 22 does.
I have seen lots of reviews with that Pin issue falling out.

I also had a Ruger Mark IV that had the pin issue, but WAY worse. Stay away from them.

Red lock tite won't help, it's specified for threads. Lock tite does make a bearing race retaining compound (it's green, and expensive) and I would recommend that before red thread locker.

Use a roll pin instead of solid pin.

Good idea. Though I think a ‘coiled spring pin’ would work better. I’ve used these in other firearms applications.
SpaeNaur, Fastenall might have them. Maybe even Home Depot. Hopefully the size needed. If longer, you can always grind it down.

^^^This is the fix. Great idea.

Well I tapped the outer end of the pin with a hammer on the vise and then hammered it in and I shot about 250 rounds this morning and it didn't move. I will keep an eye on it and in the meantime I'll see if I can get the coiled spring pin in case it happens again.
