Hey All,

I finally got my poop in a group and applied for and received my first RPAL in the mail yesterday, so in celebration I made my first pistol purchase today! A beauty, Series 70 MKIV Gold Cup Nationals Match Colt 1911 .45ACP!

This was a good friends piece I have lusted after forever. It is 100% unmolested and has only ever had 50 rounds fired through it and has ever since been parked as a collector. I think it will have to see another box of ammo go through it at the very least!

I am bloody excited to say the least... ha!

Very nice . congratulations on the new addition to the soon to become larger family LOL . they are nicely made . a guy at our range one day was shooting one just like that . he said an older woman had sold it to him while he was working at a local gun store . she was angry that she couldn't take it with her to the retirement home she was going into . it used to belong to her dearly departed husband . he said take a shot with it . so I put one round in it and the trigger was heavier than I thought it was going to be . but I ended up putting that bullet through the same hole he had just shot through the bullseye .

he and the woman with him couldn't believe it . was I ever happy . it was something like a 200 grain lead semi pointed bullet . home load . have fun with your new toy . be careful .

A wonderful pistol indeed. Congratulations. - and look ! - it doesn't have the "idiot scratch" on it. Amazing ! Make sure you learn how to re-install the slide-stop correctly - so that it never gets one.

Yes indeed. Beware of the idiot scratch. You can google "idiot scratch 1911 pistol".

Well avoiding the "Idiot scratch" will be the first thing I focus on... Before ever shooting it!

You can always use some painters tape in the area to help stop doing the 'scratch' on re-assembly or make up something like this, with some clear hard plastic packaging material & few mins of shaping:

Use a hole punch so the plastic sleeve slips over the mag release button & is held in place.

I'm glad you guys pointed that out , including the plastic protector NAA, It was the first thing I noticed looking at the pictures..... mint!
:)

Congrats on both! RPAL and that is a beautiful 1911! Over the last 12 years between my wife and myself we bought about 10 guns. All new. Slowly sold them off over time. Now I only have one. If your going to add a 9mm to your new hobby I highly recommend a CZ Shadow 2. It’s a real confidence builder.

Best thing I’ve found to avoid the idiot scratch is to use a small plastic or wood scribe to depress the detent and the stop slides right in with no pressure.
