Non corrosive ammo recommendation for SKS - now that Barnaul is out?

I have been looking for a more accurate ammo, all I found is Ruag, PMC, PPU and the cheap Norinco, others are too expensive.

What do you recommend in regards of accuracy?
 
Every gun different of course but my sks shoots the ppu pointed soft points very well. As in 1 1/8 groups at 50m. I haven't tried the fmj or the round nose sp but if I were to look for cheapish/accurate ammo I'd try that. S&B has been ok for me as well. I'd post pics but I haven't figured that out yet lol. Norinco non corrosive shoots rough in my barrel which is funny cause I have a Chinese sks. Haven't shot raug or pmc so I can't comment on those two.
 
Also has anyone confirmed barnaul is out? It sounds likely or even enviable at this point but all I've been able to find is frontiers post. Tried looking it up and couldn't find anything concrete.

It's not out but the prices have gone to a level of insanity for a steel cased round. Lowest I could find is $350 for 500 rounds plus tax plus shipping, I won't pay that.

What sort of accuracy did you get with the ammunition you listed above?

Or have you not tried them yet and are looking for the most accurate of the ones you listed?

There is a difference, sometimes significantly. There is a guy on youtube testing different ammo with his AK. The more velocity and especially consistency helps a lot in tightening those groups.



Problem is, we do not have much variety in ammo here in Canada.
 
I've found both PPU & PMC in .223 do well so I'd suggest they s/b OK. I'm down to my last 500 or so of Barnaul, saving them for a 'special occasion'. Got a bunch of Chinese ($0.40/rnd) for practice 'cause I don't mind (much) cleaning the cra-.
scianna, that Barnaul you mentioned is only 0.70 / round for accurate rounds. Most 'major' calibers are running close to $2, if you can find it. I watch ####### and LGS adverts for any Barnaul and Russian, Czech or Romanian Mil is pretty accurate, too.
 
PS - In the Stickies Ganderite did an ammo test a few years back. Most Eastern Bloc ammo did quite well. Unfortunately it's mostly down the tube now, very rare to find. I got a few hundred Roms a couple years ago at a gun show.

Yeah, I get it. Perspective, haha

I would buy more expensive ammo but if I pay 0.60 cents/bullet just for the bullets alone and have to do the work, just doesn't make much sense for the same result.

I think what buck was saying is 70 cents per round is still far cheaper than most other centerfire ammo, especially accurate ammo. Also, imo if you aren't reloading whats the real harm in steel cases for the ol' sks.
