So A friend here and other hunting friends mentioned they might put in for LEH this year and questioned what my plans might be.
So I wandered over to the BC LEH site to check out the NDP's new regs and Lo and Behold I find this message:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Wildlife data collection and decisions supporting Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) are ongoing.
The opening date for 2022 Fall LEH applications will be announced as soon as possible.
Please check back here for updates.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Have any of you BC hunters started writing your MP's yet?

We all sit by and watch while John Horgan's government is destroying "Beautiful British Columbia" and all the reasons good people like hunters choose to live here.

I hope ya'all remember this..... and Covid restrictions come the next BC election.

will there be any animals left ? i've been hearing reports of the government poisoning area 5 moose populations to " protect " the caribou ... if they are doing that , what else are they doing ?

who is reporting moose poisonings?
please post info

as for moose in region 5.... lots of moose in my area though come hunting season they seem to be able to elude hunters
Let's put it this way..... if there was a spike fork bull opening in my region, I'd have a moose down every year since I moved up here over a dozen years ago now.
Have seen some real nice bulls while I've been out deer hunting late season too so it's not just lots of young ones.
I'm gonna ask a couple wildlife counters I know if they have heard anything about this. They have done quite a few browse surveys in the cariboo corridor which is north east of my area so they would know if there is a "poison the moose" mandate.
Not sure how that would even be accomplished in the wild and would be easier done with a helicopter and a bullet.

I was just thinking the same thing not to long ago. I think you're right. I will be drafting an email to my local MP. Once I have it complete and it looks half decent I will see if I can share the file so others can use it.

I call BS.

Exactly, Bravo Sierra at its finest... or disinformation for the sensitive ears

Don’t bother writing your MP. MP’s are federal, this is a provincial issue so you need to contact your MLA ( province of BC). If anyone hasn’t figured out the difference yet then perhaps it’s understandable that government departments couldn’t care less about what the average citizen thinks or says. And why do people spread unsubstantiated rumours like poisoning moose ( if this is even possible selectively) to “protect the caribou”? Total idiotic BS and an unhelpful statement to man and beast.

Why would I not write to my MP regarding an issue that affects voters in his riding? Doesn't matter Federal or Provincial but in this case , I DO mean Federal MP. Why? Because most of BC's finest hunting is in rural BC and areas that sorely need tourism/hunter dollars to keep viable. Hunters are voters too so to think that contacting federal MP's is waste of time..... well mybe that's why nothing is getting better. Provincial NDP members are too busy lining up for the next big deal and also falling in line with Trudeau's Build Back Better/Great Reset. They don't want people hunting and providing for themselves. The NDP is ripe full of anti hunting members and re being continually and successfully lobbied to ignore the science and data and instead restrict and add hoops to jump when it comes to BC hunting. They are gonna use the Blueberry Band as the scapegoats for a whole raft of reductions in game harvest and that has all been proved to be a lie. There exists no such deal and the province acted on it's own and not at the request of some First Nations band or group. No such agreement is in place nor was it being discussed. My sources in the Treaty 8 Metis hierarchy in the disputed region 7 territory also confirm that Horgan and his ministers are LYING to the public about those agreements and no such reductions are required according to the actual data on the species and areas in question.
It's all gonna just make people to frustrated to hunt anymore and make hunting an unattractive past time to invest in

Didn't you guys hear, hunting season has been cancelled because the deer have Covid and the ducks have the flu.

Whoa, whoa, whoa it wasn't intentional poisoning. Just BC Hydro doing a herbicide spray from 1000' to clear the trees under the power lines.
8 years and the animals are starting to limp back.
Not sure what the future of hunting will bring when the powers that be give FN and outfitters more tags than the rest of the population.

one outfitter alone on Babine lake in region 6 is allotted over 50 moose every season..... been that way for years

Just goes to show how a little misinformation can go a long way.

I'm just guessing here that burnt_servo heard somewhere about herbicide spraying you describe having an impact on animals and then he posted the following.

" i've been hearing reports of the government poisoning area 5 moose populations to " protect " the caribou ..."

Just goes to show how someone can misunderstand a fragment of information, misinterpret it, start a rumour and it snowballs into a falsehood.

Since before the NDP got into power no doubt. From what I remember hearing GOABC were BC Liberal donors a few years back?...

Seems us resident hunters can't catch a break no matter who's in charge...

Sadly, the BC NDP don't give two turds about resident hunters, and I'll be very surprised if they don't follow through with the idea of putting all northern moose on LEH, despite the reported letter writing campaign being quite successful. I think the ultimate goal is to squeeze us out one regulation change at a time.

As for the moose poisoning, it's the first I've heard, and find very doubtful. Maybe it's about the heavy moose LEH allotments in caribou habitat? Moose populations are way down in those regions, but at least the caribou numbers are improving. Could also be because of the continued wolf cull, which I give the NDP credit for. At least the last I heard it was still ongoing.

It is a start with a wolf cull but the grizzly population is growing and needs to be kept in check as well. 7 live around here and they aren't being hunted.
Can't go anywhere without packing some heavy slug deterrent. I like bear meat.

Just checked again, still cannot apply.

I love this province and country...

But it truly has the most incompetent management.

And to make it worse, in BC we have no good choices. It's NDP or Liberal... and the BC liberals are just as useless and self-serving as their federal counterparts.

MP's and MLA's are totally Useless to write to ! There just ALL there for a Paycheck and a FREE RIDE pension plan ! All i ever get back is a form letter thanking me for bringing what ever subject to there attention !

After that NOTHING ! Totally Useless and a Waste of my Time ! The GOV does as it wants to and does NOT give a Phuck what we think EVER !

PROVE to me anything different Please ! jmo RJ
