Here, let me help.
There are 8pouns jugs for sale at cabelas online for 650.
Ship to store and pickup for free shipping.

Still expensive but way less than that.

Still in stock as I posted this, if you are so inclined.

So best to shop at a non-sponsor then?

I'm not quite sure what your point is. From my experiences business is business. Who cares what platform they advertise on????? And not every buisiness that does or has advertised on here is stellar. I admit that site sponsors get the largest part of my business but if something is in stock or priced better elsewhere they get my money. I recently made a $2K purchase from a firearms dealer I never heard of before (found on a random Google search) who had something I've been looking for for a long time and their service was impeccable. Actually better service than what I've received from some current and former site sponsors. Once again, I have no clue how a businesses chosen advertising platform has any correlation as to how good of a business they are???

Well when the sponsors are gouging customers, I’d say it’s fair play..
I’ll risk the banhammer to save fellow shooters money.
He isn’t gouging. He explained in another thread that he bought some at a very expensive price point from a supplier so someone has the option of getting some if they need it.

Nobody’s crystal ball is perfect. Who knows if the price will keep going up or not, or if any other powder will be available at any reasonable timeframe?

I don't get why you guys up north are getting such a powder shortage. I live in the US in the north east and we have never been without powder. Yes the shelves are lean and you can't always get what you want. Went to a store yesterday and Hodgdon 4350 on the shelf at $40.99 about 6 bottles I didn't need any so left it there. Same with projectiles, most brands in stock but not every style or weight. The big problem is still primers, LR can be found at $100 a brick but SR and SP are nowhere to be found. I don't trust any government and think they are going backdoor gun control by pricing the sport out and you guys are the first target.

I’m going to lean towards he’s lying.. I am friends with a LGS owner, and know the powder prices.. *maybe* he bought it off another retailer and then re marked it up, but that’s not helping anyone but his pocket book..

Funny how several other retailers get it for $80 though and he’s $130!? Was $120 last week! $130 this week.. must have picked up even more at those sky high prices..

Or.. is lying ….
Like all the other businesses blaming inflation and not greed.

LOL, ok.

How much should a retailer make on a single sale of a 8lb keg of powder? Is 350+ dollars reasonable?

Dealer should decline purchasing stuff at crazy price and market those at these insane price. They loose all credibility by doing so.
There is now an IMR 4166 powder that is a very very close match if not the same than Varget at normal price. No reason to use Varget..

Here's the new reality for those who haven't been paying attention.
A myriad of small time gun stores/ammo sellers throughout the country are having logistical problems when it comes to arranging for the shipping of dangerous goods. Not say the retailer being picked on here is having those problems but a whole lot are and it is adding big cost to certain products.
The main reason many small fish and gun shops throughout BC haven't been able to restock powder is that it doesn't come thru the same distributor as most of their other product. On top of this, the carriers that do bring stuff like powders, will only delivery it to an approved facility where the buyer must either arrange further transport or go pick it up themselves.
So I was told by a local retailer he has to organize with other buyers and they combine shipments on one pallet as some private carriers with dangerous goods certs will only transport wrapped pallets and nothing smaller. So the cost gets driven up and we can all understand basic Supply and Demand and how that drives pricing and availability and now we have to add Freight costs that are just getting crazier by the day.
I don't think my LGS will be able to restock any dangerous goods any time in the near future and is even getting hit hard on the spring fishing tackle and the suppliers want terms never seen before at the bookings.
As others have mentioned , varget was and might still be at that non sitesponsor store for far less than the retailer being picked on here but that big store has it's own freight company shipping its firearms, ammunition and powder/primers between stores and to authorized third party carriers like canada post and UPS/Purolator where applicable.

Vendors that can assemble the best logistics system deserve to benefit from it.

I stopped using Varget years ago when it became scarce. I get equal/better results with my 4166 and 4895 loads- and I picked these powders because they were available. There are other powders out there- I see no reason to pay mental prices for Varget.

While I did not work for a company as large as bass pro/cabelas , the company I did work for had access to all the same trade shows and booking rates that were only availlable to clients spending in the millions yearly. So I have a pretty good understanding of the situation with retailers like Cabela's. Powder to them, at this time, is a loss leader and I imagine that they are not even too concerned about profit margins as long as they have the product as it brings customers to their stores and online stores. Powder is in such high demand it is easy for them to use it as a loss leader and they also know that supply/demand means that customers are gonna pay the premium in times like these.
On top of Cabela's purchasing power that enables them to use products like powder (in times of scarcity) , they OWN their own freight company that is fully licensed to move firearms and dangerous goods throughout the country.
Canada's firearms retailers need to band together and fund a shipping company start up I'm thinkin.

I've been watching the Varget and H4895 market carefully, as my main rifle can use either and I have some of each, but will run out this summer.

Varget has been more available this spring than H4895.
