Question for you folks. I have about 3000 or so cast unlubed unsized slugs sitting here since I sold my .45 ACP. Any thoughts what to do with them? I really hate to remelt them as I have enough lead here already to last my lifetime, Think any one would be interested in them on the EE? Keep them and buy a 450 bushmaster and blast gophers? Thoughts??

I agree with 45C , put them up for sale & hope for a buyer close to you.
I sold lead once on the EE & the buyer was a 40 min. drive from me.
Another way is to take them to a gun show near you.

I sold a can full of 185 gr. HP .45 acp yesterday and it weighed 43 pounds with approximately 1600 slugs in it by weight. As for gun shows..pass on that one. Not gonna sit there all day to sell them off. Weight of the 2 cans would be in the 80-100 pound range..if someone really wanted them I could send them by freight truck. I dunno know even what to ask for them. $20.00 per 250?? 500?? I dunno!!

HI; I do not cast. BUT have a lube machine and sizer. Purchase lead bullets as cast at gun shows or old dry crap off auctions and re-lube them. Price? HALF of normal retail is my rule of thumb. As my lube, my time, my effort to finish the product. If they wish for full retail, walk on is my rule, it no saving for me.

Tumble lube and sell for a slightly reduced price? No matter who says they're only worth $xx, the market decides what they're actually worth.

Depending on bullet weight you have minimum 80 lbs. of lead. Scrap lead can be $1 a pound but clean alloyed bullet metal up to $2 a pound. So we have about $160 to start with without considering the effort and expense to cast into bullets. As far as someone’s effort and time to size and lube them that is only valuable to them unless they are going to sell them. Set the price where you feel comfortable and the market will let you know if you are right. (D@mn, did that sound like “the budget will balance itself” NOT my intention!!!)

This is proof that we shouldn't sell guns at least without replacing them (coming from someone who didn't have a 38/357 for 20 years ).
It's a pity that nobody at your range can help you out, but I can relate to you there too. 45 shooters and handloaders are scarce, not to mention trust in other's work (even bullets; you will become responsible for other's bad shooting).
Personally, if local, I would look at it as clean metal for my own casting. Which alloy is it?

Just straight WW. I used to shoot 3-400 every month so would just cast up a bunch to keep me going. Then one summer I decided to get ahead of the game and do up a couple of paint cans full. I could size and lube them but for me to do that I dont have the time for it. I still have 1300+ pounds and also 350 lbs of pure lead all remelted into nice little ingots so really dont need much more.

This is an awesome opportunity for someone to purchase unlubed, clean bullets that will take powder coating without going through the cleaning wax off....either PC with one coat for pistol use bullets or multi coat up to .459 for 45-70 plinking...If I lived close enough I'd grab them in a heartbeat.

Yes , what an opportunity, if I didn’t live on a rock in the Atlantic, I’d grab them in a heartbeat.

What's the weight and style of bullet, and where in Alberta are you? I might be interested, and have a friend near Edmonton that travels through to northern BC regularly.

Fingers284 is right. Unmolested cast bullets are ripe for powder coating & sizing. You got nothing to lose posting an ad in the EE, further, suggest you post an ad at your local gun ranges. Even at C$60.00 a thousand there’s still value there…..
As long as they are RN or SWC and not some oddball design they would be a steal @ $60/1000.

Not to derail. But why the poweder coating? What is the advantage?
Powder coating allows you shoot the bullets at higher velocity (similiar to a jacketed bullet) without leading the barrel. Powder coated bullets also produce considerably less smoke than conventionally lubed bullets as the powder coating does not burn off the way wax based lubes do.
