I feel if you want an investment, buy an investment. If you want a gun, buy a gun. The only reason we think SKS has collector value is because of the F-ed up import ban in the USA artificially pumping up their prices. Otherwise, there would be no perceived collector value anyway.
I will shoot all of my firearms - bought new or used. Buying new and holding (and never shooting) could be an investment for some, but not for me. As I'm getting older and none of my kids care about firearms/hunting/fishing I figure that my wife will just be liquidating my stuff once i pass on. Hence, I will use them as much as I want to enjoy them.
Imagine buying a "new" FN-FAL or other rifle back in the day, never shooting it, and now having it stuck in your safe forever. Not for me.
And I do shoot corrosive out of any of my guns (and clean them well afterwards).
My $0.02

Ever hear of these bolt guns called Lee Enfields? They were gonna be dirt cheap forever, so everybody bubba'd the hell out of them because they were dirt cheap and not collectible and ammo was going to be plentiful and super cheap forever, and, and, and...
The Lee Enfield is over 100 years old. So many of them were sporterized, non-sporterized samples are significantly less common. They were a quality gun with Canadian heritage interest. They were not mass produced by communists.
I am fairly sure there are millions of SKS still in China in warehouses and 10s of thousands in eastern European countries. Currently there is a supply chain issue that may or may not be corrected in the future. While I don't expect SKS prices to go down, they quite likely will again stagnate.
I really don't see much parallel between the Lee Enfield and the SKS.
