I feel if you want an investment, buy an investment. If you want a gun, buy a gun. The only reason we think SKS has collector value is because of the F-ed up import ban in the USA artificially pumping up their prices. Otherwise, there would be no perceived collector value anyway.

Ever hear of these bolt guns called Lee Enfields? They were gonna be dirt cheap forever, so everybody bubba'd the hell out of them because they were dirt cheap and not collectible and ammo was going to be plentiful and super cheap forever, and, and, and...

I will shoot all of my firearms - bought new or used. Buying new and holding (and never shooting) could be an investment for some, but not for me. As I'm getting older and none of my kids care about firearms/hunting/fishing I figure that my wife will just be liquidating my stuff once i pass on. Hence, I will use them as much as I want to enjoy them.

Imagine buying a "new" FN-FAL or other rifle back in the day, never shooting it, and now having it stuck in your safe forever. Not for me.

And I do shoot corrosive out of any of my guns (and clean them well afterwards).

My $0.02

^^^This! ^^^

I shot my FNs up until the very day I wasn't allowed to anymore... at a range approved by the bla bla bla:p

For Christ's sake shoot 'em. It's not like they are going to turn into a 1929 Persian Mauser or a 1935 Brazilian contract rifle.

I'd rather shoot 'em now than bury them next month . . . I've had a couple and shoot the one I kept EVERY TIME I hit the range, 1-200 rounds of Chicom Milsurp. I bought a couple cases last Fall and just bought a Ranch in x39 to help use up the rounds. I figure I've got about 5 years worth unless I need them sooner. . .

Definitely enjoy shooting them while you can as the Lieberal-NDP will likely prohibit them in the near future. This is not America where you can plan long term for firearms ownership and investment.

The Lee Enfield is over 100 years old. So many of them were sporterized, non-sporterized samples are significantly less common. They were a quality gun with Canadian heritage interest. They were not mass produced by communists.

I am fairly sure there are millions of SKS still in China in warehouses and 10s of thousands in eastern European countries. Currently there is a supply chain issue that may or may not be corrected in the future. While I don't expect SKS prices to go down, they quite likely will again stagnate.

I really don't see much parallel between the Lee Enfield and the SKS.

i agree with RMXC.

so funny, you mentioned the parallel and yet you dont see it.

the important commonalities are 1. both are old (it dont matter whether its 100 or 75, its still old). 2. many countries once produced them but both are no longer mass produced (it doesnt by commies or not). 3. both were once cheap that owners sporterized/bubbaed them thus reducing the quantity here.

was quality a priority for military guns? anywho, yes, LE not produced by commies but i rather have a used N. korean SKS anytime over pristine LE.

millions overseas doesnt translate to millions over here. im sure there are plenty in Ukraine and russian. so what? no chance of getting them brought here.

with our political climate. importers would be very leery bringing them millions over here.
