What can I expect to pay for a custom 22LR build?

Jerry why don’t you start you own thread about economy benchguns and quit trying to market your products with every post

let’s get back to the topic at hand

Jeff

If a bolt... CZ457

If a semi..... 10/22

If you are looking at using a factory donor action. I don't have any experience with the new Annie actions

Note I am answering someones direct question... maybe you should give him the gears for asking the wrong thing on a post.

"My home range allows 22LR up to 300m if the shooter can show they are responsible, but none of my existing 22LR rimfire rifles will make it that distance reliably, so I'd want my custom be able to do so. What length of barrel would I need? Is a 1-in-16 twist sufficient? What about the chambering?"

Do you know anything about shooting rimfire to 300m? not likely... and since the OP wants to shoot LR with a rimfire, offer some suggestions on proper setup. I really would like to hear what you would recommend. Why not show us how your set up shoots?

Or did you just focus on RB/LP and forget about the end use goals? Or maybe you read "bench" and.....

Had a great day shooting at 340m in some nice gusty winds yesterday... but I will not bore anyone here with my experience except to say we got 5 new rifles dialed in and we were hitting some pretty small objects at distance.

Maybe you need to read the question and offer some relevant suggestions...... Enjoy

I can load my Anschutz 54 "over the top" from the left pretty easy, not exactly a left port but then again rimfire isn't exactly feeding a long round into the chamber.

Everyone may also benefit from more carefully reading the questions, implicit or otherwise.

The idea that comes from the OP is that he is looking for a "dream" rifle, made from a custom action and barrel, not a rebarreled and restocked Savage, however well some may shoot. Although he may not be certain about what disciplines he might eventually end up doing, he has some thoughts as to what he may be looking for.

The OP says "My current thinking is a right handed single shot, preferably with a left side port for feeding and ejection. It would sit in a quality front rest, riding a rear bag some of the time (but not always). I know Stiller's 2500X and Trident are popular down south, as is the Turbo. Does anyone in Canada carry these or import those?"

For what purpose are the types of actions to which the OP refers? They are single shot BR actions. For serious shooters, they are key components in many of the most commonly used custom BR rifles. These rifles typically use the quality rest system that the OP intends to shoot with.

Regarding the cost, it's not cheap. Components imported to Canada and gunsmithing costs might easily put it north of $3500 plus the wait. Of course, after hearing what a custom "dream" rifle would cost, the OP may well change his thinking to something less expensive and a little more available.

Regarding the barrel twist and chamber questions, it seems likely that he's read enough from online forums and elsewhere to be aware that some shooters are enthusiastic about faster twist barrels and that some chambers may be currently in fashion. Suffice it to say that it's very difficult to distinguish accuracy differences between two barrels of different twists when shooting long distances outdoors. Also suffice it to say that among the various match chamberings (there are literally dozens) there isn't one that stands out as being the most desirable. As always, ammo selection is more important.

While the OP says his range extends to 300 meters, it's worth noting that the actions to which he refers (with custom barrels) would be very effective in shooting long distances. They are not suitable, however, for PRS style shooting which generally favour a repeating rifle. For that purpose many shooters use Vudoo or RimX repeating rifles.

A personal message was sent to the OP without a response.
His trader rating is 7.
He has failed to respond to the comments.
He is conspicuous by his absence.
We should all wonder if he uses a center pin reel, barbed triple hook with live bait.

I don't see why a Turbo or 2500x couldn't be brought in through someone like Prophet River if you wanted one.

Yes, importing them shouldn't be an issue. More problematic is availability and resulting wait times. Apparently, many American rimfire BR shooters report long waits for some actions.

In the US the cost of a 2500X action, as well as a Trident action, is $1450 USD (or about $1875 CAD). The Turbo action is a few hundred less. Add to the action a barrel, trigger, and stock (at least another $1000, likely more) and the key parts are there. Unfortunately some custom barrels, like the much sought after Shilen and perhaps others, reportedly have long wait times.

As mentioned above by others, a concern in Canada is finding a smith who can put these together properly as serious BR shooters south of the border insist that it's not a job for any smith. An experienced rimfire specialist is always preferred for best results.

I believe the best results would come from dealing with a known rimfire gunsmith in the states to have a gun built there the have it imported. It would definitely be costly but I don't think it would be much more than a Vudoo. Might take more time though.

I agree. And since it's unknown how well a rifle newly put together will shoot, it might be a good idea to follow the advice frequently offered by very experienced shooters, which is to buy a previously owned rifle that's known to be a good shooter. It can be imported to Canada just as well as a new rifle. I would seriously consider that if I were in the market for a rifle that shot superlatively well.

I agree with the used rifle as well. It would probably be my first option if I was in the market.

I can give you a price since a friend I shoot shilouette with just had this done. Stiller 2500x action, benchmark barrel, triggertech 2 stage trigger, wooster stock, bedded, hydro dipped and bottom metal. Includes gunsmith fees. Put together by a smith in the US. All said and done $3500US so about $4500 CAD
