I know this conversation gets tossed around regularly, but I’m bringing it up again, the old threads are all … old.

Obviously this is coming from a Mares Leg owner. What options does a Canadian have for a full length stock on an 1892 pattern lever gun? There’s been a couple new “tactical”/black 1892 offerings in the past year, but no one seems to offer the stock alone. Most manufacturers don’t want to sell just a stock, even if you’re talking to the manufacturer of the short barreled firearm.

I’d love to find a synthetic/polymer stock to fit my mares leg, but they’re unobtainium, short of buying a full rifle and taking it from there. Even an old beat up wood stock would be fine for me to refinish at this point.

Anyone got leads or suggestions?

A local friend of the owner has a stock duplicator (pantograph) and supplied '92 pattern butt stocks through the shop to those who wished to make their Rossi maresleg actually useful.

When I had a rossi ranch hand I ordered a rear stock from Rusty wood trading, and also got the correct front sight at the same time. They had them in stock at that time.

Rusty wood doesn’t have anything. Though they were kind enough to email me on the holiday Monday.

Just went through Boyd’s again, while they have an 1892 stock (on sale even), they want to charge over 80 USD to ship a $75 item.

Still looking for any other options.

I ended up ordering from precision gun stocks tonight. $110 plus $45 (USD) shipped from Texas Decided I don’t want to have any unfinished projects the way our government is going. I’ll have a bit of fitting in my future. I’ll let everyone know how it goes.

Well it's quite well publicized on the internet Win 92 and Win 94 stocks are interchangeable.
So what's the truth?

It was a while ago so I don't remember all the changes necessary but I fit a Ram Line plastic 94 stock to a Rossi 92..... definitely not interchangeable.

I guess the question then is "are rossi and winchester 92 stocks and mounting furniture identical)? - dan

I think a bit of hand fitting is to be expected but when I later ordered some wood stocks from Richards micro fit or what ever they are called there were different options for 92's and 94's.

I heard from other the slots in the barrel for front & rear sights differ from Winchesters-Brownings too.

There could be some minor differences depending on the era of Rossi, I've never had issues getting williams or marbles sights to work though. Steve's guns is a great resource for anything rossi.

Fore end I can see, there is a lot of variance there. I've had to reshape fore ends for octagon barrels, for example. Butt stocks, not so much. Still curious. Guess I'll have to take one of mine apart and see. - dan
