Fuel prices and hunting plans?

as I heard another fellow outdoorsman comment one day saying. that if the oil was in the east I'm sure Trudeau would have it up and running full tilt. kinda makes me wonder for sure.

I won't change my hunting plans but I will be using my Escape more than my F150. For my style of hunting it won't make a difference what I'm driving and a few totes and tarps and I could fit a moose in the back of the Escape once it's quartered and cut up.

regular gasoline at the pumps right now in bc interior (100 mile) ....... 2.09 a liter.
That is up from 1.94 yesterday.

This is going to cripple anyone in a town with no transit system , especially if they are making minimum to medium level wages.
If Covid and CERB weren't enough to reduce Canada's workforce ..... now the government takes it another step forward andd is making transportation unaffordable

are Canadian's ready to fill the streets with torches and pitchforks yet????
what's it gonna take??

I'll point out that British Columbians went to riot mode over a perceived to be rigged Canucks play off game yet they all drone on to 2.00 a liter gasoline and that's for the regular gas.

Canadians aren't peoplekind...... they are sheeplekind.

News to me. Got a source?

A little bit of googling suggests that Canada's refineries already create enough gasoline to supply all of Canada, but its cheaper to import oil than get it to Ontario from the West. New refineries being built would thus be creating product we don't need and would be exported. Care to comment on that while you're at it?

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Why-Canada-Would-Rather-Export-Oil-Than-Refine-It.html

Come to think of it, doesn't the vast majority of BC gasoline come from Alberta refineries? I recall claims of like 90% coming through the current TMX when they had to shut it down last fall due to the floods/storms in November? So I guess more domestic refineries wouldn't make a significant impact on gasoline prices here in the West...?

And none of this answers how more refineries or refining more domestic oil rather than exporting it would make gas cheaper? The government doesn't set the price of a barrel of oil...?

Ya, google LOL
You trust google these days?
It was Canada's energy regulators that claim we don't need more refineries , that we produce enough..... then why send it to Cherry Point? That's not Canada last I checked.
Bottom line is that our fuel prices in Canada could be well under a dollar if it wasn't for a stifled refinery system, a stifled oil and gas industry as a whole and the great carbon tax scam.
Canadian's are being scammed hard right now when it comes to energy , a product our country has no shortage of. The shortages are being fabricated plain and simple

There's lots of untapped oil in NFLD and natural gas in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, is my understanding ....

Trudeau's bosses want to squeeze Canadians. They don't care where the oil is.

The sooner that the world's citizens figure this out (true everywhere right now!), the better.

Back on topic...will probably hunt less because of it. Only so much money in the family budget these days with so many other necessities increasing in cost.

Ya, 'cause cost per lb. per mile, of wild game ain't cheap. Last year the partridge I got cost me 'bout 30 bucks a lb. Lucky I only got one.;)

Wife and I were just talking about hunting plans for fall as she has to book her holidays by june 10th.
one hunt I do every year for the past 2 decades is a 700km round trip. We will find a way to fit that in but outside of that we may just be hunting locally.
Not sure what I will do about elk or moose as those are 6 and 10 hour drives one way and the regs aren't out yet to plan trips on anyways.
right now I'm just trying to afford a 5 hour drive down to see my mom and dad as I haven't seen them in over a year now.

let me know if/when the riots start, I'll bring my lawn chair and popcorn

Won't be scouting for geese with the truck very much this fall that's for sure. Hopefully buying a car soon to commute to work save the truck just for hunting.

Lucky my deer hunting is 15min from my house.

I am very lucky enough to have small game hunting access a friend's rural property. Almost a full section.
I check on the security of his cabin while I am there.
Quick text msg just prior to leaving thus property.
Takes me about 20 minutes to drive there.
Usually a three hour turnaround with productivity. On a day off that's perfect for game care, gun cleaning & good nites rest before a workday. Getting old sucs.

Fuel prices aside, this will llikely be the last year for Louie, my son's GSP, so we plan to make the most of short trios for partridge, and maybe dowwn to Wessex for some planted birds for him.
As fr as big game goes, plans won't change for me....

Yeah. Let's ignore the record profits being made by oil companies. Let's just blame elected officials. I'm sure if the CPC was in power right now gas would still be $1.25/L right?...

Well seeing as how oil is STILL trading at approx $110 a barrel, yet the fuel price just keeps going up, I'd almost be inclined to believe there is something else going on here, wouldn't you???

Maybe your idea of what an "oil company" is, and my idea are different? Companies I work for are NOT making record profits, or I would be a whole lot busier....

There is a nice graphic in that article which let's you visualize how the price has changed. Compared to a year ago Wholesale margins are up 65%, crude prices are up 80%, taxes are only up 15% and retail margins are actually down a bit.

We went from 47c taxes to 53c taxes. In the same time period we went from 28.4c in wholesale markup to 46.6c. Yes we pay a lot of taxes, but at least those taxes go to public services and not a billionaires bank account. Would I like to pay less taxes? Absolutely. But anyone who lived through the November Floods last year know we need money to invest in our infrastructure...
