6 new F and W officer's... new Sheriffs in town

F & W is a higher level of training and education than police. Every F & W I have met is reasonable and chill, but they apply the laws they are to enforce very aggressively. Speeders drop into your lap, a F&W investigation is time consuming and there is only 70ish officers for the province.

I've run in to them a couple times while fishing the bow/sheep rivers and they've always been reasonable. The Number I heard was 104 (unsure how true) for the entire province, which is quite low when you consider that they're not all working at the same time, and that's spread over a huge area.

Friend's brother was a F&W officer, retired now. During the Klein years i seem to recall him telling me they were down to under 30 for the province. Not nearly as many people back then though. - dan

A lot of these guys take those jobs because they couldn`t make it as real LEOs ie: RCMP or big city cops. They are often hung up on their own self importance and are often over zealous, over officious and seem to enjoy their "authority" a little too much. I suspect they were the kids in school that were bullied and had their lunch money taken from them. Best to be very cautious and not give them any reason to flex their muscle on you.

That hasn't been my impression at all, and I've met a pile of game wardens over the years. Pretty much all of them hunt and they became a warden because they wanted to be outdoors rather than sitting behind a desk writing up domestic abuse reports like a cop.

You couldn’t pay me enough to be a fish cop these days.
