Sako TRG M10 wins the Canadian Multi-Calibre Sniper Weapon

AI is in the same market as PGW - look how much they've evolved while PGW became stagnant.

One company is thriving with a plethora of gov contracts and one is clinging on to life.

You're going to get passed by if you stay stagnant. Everything evolves, and that includes shooting and the associated equipment. Look at how much sniper equipment has evolved over the decades.
I agree with you on the AI doing well and having lots of contracts. Move that company here and our government would ruin them the same as they’ve done to any rifle company that’s not based in Quebec. You are ok with not supporting Canadian made but I’m not. Then again I still live here! Now that’s funny EH

The problem with PGW is they never seemed interested in updating their rifles. They seemed happy to be stuck in the precision rifle world of the mid 2000's, while everyone was innovating and evolving around them. If PGW didn't stay so stagnant in their designs, I imagine they would be in a better place than they are now.

I'm also surprised about Cadex. They seem to be really dialed in for government contracts. Plus they are a Quebec company.

Just my opinions of course. I would love to see a more modern and competitive brand in PGW. Their models are iconic, but in need of a "refreshment".

I agree with your points but I will add, that "part" of the problem was the Cdn GOV itself and it's "lowest bid" contract style and lack of continually funding and purchasing equipment is part of the problem. It's well known that the "bread & butter" for PGW came for the Saudi order, which I'm guessing they make quite a bit more on, than the Cdn rifles. If you own or run a company you can't pay bills on a Cdn contract once every 20yrs, if you are a rifle builder you want to build and sell rifles all day and all year long.

I know ur well educated and seasoned cuz Ive read many of ur posts. Just out of curiosity have you ever owned any of the rifles Ive mentioned? Im pretty sure the snipers from CSOR and JTF2 that Ive met wouldnt really care about new fangled but proven guns built like tanks and serviceable by the makers in CANADA. We are not talking about a PRS match but crawling around in an unfriendly enviroment taking out hostile targets that will kill you givin the chance. Those fellas I had the fortune to meet couldnt express how happy they were with the PGW rifles when I mentioned them! As far as updating a sniper rifle goes Ive always been a firm believer in "Why fix something thats not broken". If I have a gun thatll put the first bullet as well as all the remainder in the mag thru the same ragged hole, Well Im not gonna complain. PGW has it hands down. PERIOD

Nobody is saying that the PGW's platform aren't excellent rifles, and operator feedback and preference is always important on the platform so that it gets the use it needs. That said, the real problem was waiting for another purchase from the Cdn GOV 20yrs apart, you can't run a business on that, never mind all the current procurement BS.

I also suspect that the procurement requirement changed from "dedicated" calibres? to a multi calibre rifle, which isn't operator doable with the current PGW platform.

PGW is a little busy right now making as many rifles as they can for a certain foreign government at the behest of our federal government.

I assume your talking about people under the blue and yellow flag. Thats great to hear because they make awesome guns. I dont care how old some think they are! Almost all modern actions are still based on an iconic action and I dont see a whole lot of innovation other than coatings and better machinery making them. There will be some Russians thatll wish that didnt happen, hopefully PUTIN will be on the receiving end of one!!!

Well you know stuff like how to smith them properly, what the accurate barrel life is, when to change a barrel, how to properly clean them, what twist rates to run for specific ammo....etc.

I have not seen the SOR and I will admit to only spending a year in procurement. THANK GOD. But riddle me this..given the points I saw given to Canadian Companies.. a little over 400 rifles..money wise in the big picture a drop in the bucket..yet a Canadian company from Quebec who builds pretty nice rifles could not win it..not tracking.

Let's cut to the chase here, here's the owner of PGW, ask him about the Cdn sniper rifle contract? RossSpagrud, here's a member here.
Also here's one the the top Cadex guys, maybe he can fill in the blanks as well? patrice@cadexinc.com, aka Cadex Defence

I'm guessing the short answer is that it's not worth the "headache", LOL & no money in it.

Oh have no illusions what it is like to work with the Cdn Govt on these projects...interesting though tht Sako was willing to.

The long and short of it is, PGWDTI designs and build rifles for military/LEO use.......which they excel at.
That is their priority rather than designing rifles for PRS or other "game" type disciplines. ;)

Plus they do have higher priorities at this time..........

The "Long & the Short" of it, is that it's really an F-Class action that they improved, well done, lets move on. How many guns are they building for Ukraine is what I want to know?

I'm curious to know what happened to their direwolf rifle.

I was told on here that this model essentially makes bolt actions obsolete for most .mil sniper roles.

I figured the government contracts would be flying in, given how innovative of a rifle it is.
