Anyone using the Leica 1200 LRF care to share comments about it???

I don't really like the shape/style of the 1200 CRF........

Looking at picking one up in the new year as I have found one a good price at Cameraland.................

How does it compare to the higher end Leupold Range Finders that have the built in ballistic drop and the inclination feature??

Thx.

Check out the 6mmbr site. It has a write-up in Technical Articles about laser rangefinders. Personally I switched from a Bushnell Legend to a Leica LRF1200...very happy. Ranges farther and better.

I got my Leica this year on super sale from Cameraland. I love this unit, and it I used it when I went deer hunting to good effect. I don't see how you could go wrong with one of these.

the only knock about the one I want (the LRF ) is that it is not waterproof, but water splash resistant.

The high end Leupold I looked into doesn't range as accurately as the Leicas, and the reticle is way too busy..............

Looks like I will be ordering the 1200 LRF.................

I have posted before a couple times about the rangefinders. I have a Leica and it works very well for me here in Ab. That said when my brother and I were in New Mexico hunting antelope they didn't work that great. The guys down there had every expensive type of optic you can imagine including the Geovids and the only one that they said worked everytime out to 1000 yards was the Swarovski model. We tried everyones and the Swarovski was the one that performed. We didn't come home and get rid of the Leicas because they work fine for the hunting we do here. Just some food for thought.

I would love to get the Swarovski. but the post Xmas budget says no, you can have a Leica instead...............;)

I also picked up the leica LRF1200 from cameraland. It works just fine for me. It was free so to speak :) The spotting scope I bought at the same time was cheap enough that the combo price was the same as just the scope up here.

I wanted to buy a Leica as well this year but got talked out of it by the Leica dealer  Been doing a bit of research and the guys over at Snipershide swear by the Swarovski Laser Guide....but hey thats just me :runaway:

The Swarvo is out of my post Xmas budget..........plus the knock against it is that the aiming reticle is like 20 MOA and it is difficult to accurately range an object at a great distance. You need to take several tries.............

I used my new Leica this year for the first time (mule deer hunting). It worked extremely well and I love the boxy shape as it's much easier to hold steady at distance.

Leupold's absurd reticle design was enough to turn me off from one of those units.

I have a Leica LRF 1200 Scan and it works like a charm. The crappy Bushnell Yardage Pro is now on the floor of my basement with a 30 caliber hole in the center as a result of a CCB confirmation. Made a good tgt but a poor rangefinder. I guess you get what you pay for.

I thought my Leica was great until I tried a Swarovski. Now mine is down-graded to "adequite" and I sense another purchase coming up.
I tried one of those Chinese Leupold ranging binos this summer. Besides being a poor binocular, they weigh about the same as an anvil.

Leupold has addressed this problem and has finally entered a new laser rangefinder that will compete with the Leicas directly. I think the model is the RXB-IV. Worth a look and should come out cheaper.

Looked at several reviews of the newer leupold.............It doesn't get rave reviews............The viewfinder is too busy..........too much crap to look through...........and the range finding capabilities isn't up to the Leica or Swarovski.............

Overall from what I have found, the Swarovski is the overall number one pick, the the two Leicas come in second (The CRL & LRF 1200s....)...........But the LRF is $429.00 and the Swarvoski is $889.00...............

Point it moot now as I have a Leica LRF 1200 waiting to be picked up at my postal outlet.......:D

I picked up my Leica today and was surpised at how small it actually was................I though it would be larger, but I must say this was a nice surprise.

I haven't played with it too much, but it gives a reading VERY,VERY quick, and it is repeatable when ranging an object several times.

It can be set for yards OR meters..........unlike some of the other rangefinders.

The aiming point is a small red lit circle, and the distance is displayed just below. There is nothing else in your field of view which is nice. You can hold down the scan button and the rangefinder will continually scan the distances of the various objects you are looking at.............

The viewer is a 7X monocular, and has a diopter adjustment.

It came with a cordura case and neck strap.

Once I take it out and try it at longer distances, I will report back with some pics.

is there something similar from them but in Bino instead? with more magnification possibly?

Yes, but add a lot more money into the equation..................you are looking at $2,000.00 plus dollars.................the 15 X 56 Bino Rangerfinder is $2,796.00.....................
