Hey, speak for yourself :d

My rationale for choosing more "neutral", unscented gun products is this:
Humans are vastly overpopulated at this point and even deep in the most remote wildlife reserve you'd be hard pressed to find an animal that hasn't smelled humans. We're animals after all, and human sweat/breath - while recognized as a danger - is not completely out of place in their environment. A strong-smelling synthetic gun product likely is. God forbid a hunter with that distinctive smell actually misses them: they've just educated that animal to associate that smell with danger and avoid it.
Even something as dumb as a pigeon - and they are stupid AF - can very quickly learn to associate sights, smells, sounds and other stimuli with risks or rewards.

If you're a skilled hunter you can bag game wearing jeans and red flannels and slathered in Old Spice.. but if you are taking the time, expense and effort to stack the deck in your favor via camo and scent elimination then it seems counter-productive to just grab a gun saturated with strong-smelling gun oils/preservatives out of the cabinet without a second thought.

Gun products are so distinctive that border services dogs are trained to locate firearms and components by the smell of gun oils.
Haha sorry I just assumed a manbearpig might carry a bit of scent.

I've never even thought about gun oil scent. I'm sure someone sells some gimmick scent free oil though. :)

Wind is the only way to fool wild animals noses.

Exactly.

Marketing and BS are the only reasons to believe you need to eliminate or cover up the scent of oil on your gun. Hunters today have been led to believe they need to have the latest scent killing camo suits stored in ozone machines and transported in scent lock containers. Obviously a scent killing shower and spraying a bottle of cover scent before the hunt are mandatory too if you want even a slim chance of getting within 500 yards of a deer or coyote.

Or just learn how to hunt. Its free and works the best...

I use 3-in-1 oil and have never had it cause an issue. I dont put a lot of effort into scent control any more, but I dont generally bow hunt either. I'm sure they can smell my thermos of fresh coffee as well.
I know some guys that go hunting smelling like a Friday night dive bar and always get a buck or moose.

I wish I lived in a place where the wind never swirls.
Some places it is just impossible to always be down wind. I would have to move my stand every 5 minutes some days.

The wind swirls here too. I'd rather not hunt a crappy wind and not burn my spot.

TBH, I would be more worried about my breath and BO (human scent which you can't get rid of) than the scent of my gun oil.

I would agree. The scent we don't even notice is probably enough to make the average wild animal throw up. The inside of truck smell, campfire odour (though I'm not certain that's a problem) regular human scent as you say, laundry soap, boot grease, coffee, bacon and eggs, etc. I doubt if a firearm lubricant fragrance makes any difference at all.
