Lube for Black Powder

Internal lubed - bullet is grooved, grooves filled with lube, lubed area seated in case.
External lubed - exposed bullet is lubricated, like a .22.
Bullet designs are different for internal/external. Your bullet will tell you which way it is to be lubed.
 
What gun and cartridge? 38 S&W, 38 rimfire,...?

Tiriaq is right that the design usually dictates the use. Outside lubes bullets are usually heeled so the bearing surface is the same diameter as the case. These are rare and specialized these days.
Of course you can always add extra lube to a normal grease groove round if it needs more than the lube grooves hold.
 
That lube is intended for use with smokeless powders. Will not work with BP. Most BP bullets have 2 or more lube grooves. You will have to heat up bullets in a basket over a pan in the oven and melt the lube out and relube with a BP lube. I recommend you sell these and buy bullets for BP use.
 
Mangosteen: In an earlier post, you mentioned that you intended to load your .38-44 cartridges with Triple 7. If so, it's been my experience that Triple 7 does not seem fussy about lube used. So, bullets lubed for smokeless powder like yours, should be okay to shoot. You can use bp specific lube if you like, but not necessary.

Caveat: If shooting Pyrodex or black powder(Goex, Swiss, etc.), this recommendation does not apply. In which case, use a lube specifically formulated for bp use. As mentioned by several other posters.

I made a wire mesh basket and soaked a batch of bullets in an automotive wax and grease remover to remove lube. Worked well, possibly any mild solvent or thinner would work. I then pan lubed these with SPG for black powder use. These bullets were way too hard [25 Brinnel] and leaded my barrel .The lube minimized it considerably but selling or trading them off sounds like the easiest and best solution as MC suggests.
