Hello all, I am wanting to purchase a handgun in hopes I get in before the ban. Nowhere has stock but I can backorder on RDSC. If I were to order now through RDSC how would I go about the transfer process or is that done through RDSC. I am completely new to this process (hopefully I don't sound to dumb) and any info would be greatly appreciated. Also any other advice on where to purchase if RDSC is not valid would be a great help. Thank you all

Get your range membership and send a copy of it to the firearms center to have on file. That will speed up your transfer.
You can buy at RDSC but there are other stores available as well. Regardless of store I would recommend buying a pistol that is in stock vs one that is backordered.

Best to bring your A game , and buy a gun that is already in stock as some dealers have been restocking . Keep an eye for in stock guns as stock is changing rapidly , and be prepared to pull the trigger , and buy quickly when you see a gun that you want , and can afford . In short , keep checking dealer websites , and don't take the night to think about it if you see a gun that you want . Best of luck .

I rather doubt we’ll see many more restricted guns imported into Canada by our gun shops. Probably just the ones that were already on order but not yet delivered when this went down. Retailers don’t want to get stuck with 10s of thousands of dollars of stock that they can’t sell. So, IMO, if it isn’t in stock right now, or in transit, the odds are pretty good that it never will be. If you look hard enough some stores still have reasonable inventory levels.

You can also try using retailers like IRunGuns or Prophet River to purchase a specific gun in the US and have them import it for you. If you’re set on buying new I’m guessing that’s your best chance if you can’t find it currently in stock somewhere.

You can also post here a bit, become a member of our community, and then gain access to the Equipment Exchange. That’s a good option if you don’t mind purchasing a used gun.

Good luck

Thank you all for the responses. I think you have answered all my questions! If you have any other websites to recommend that would still be appreciated. Also to confirm I can order form Irunguns us and they will ship to Canada? Thank you all again! awesome community that I look forward to participating in more! Cheers

Both in stock. Prophet River is great.

Hypothetically a person could buy something and thus own it before actually taking possession, but since a restricted class gun has to be identified by serial number and registered to you, unless the seller has the serial number of the gun you are buying you aren't buying/registering a particular gun. I think that's not going to work for you. Buy something you can actually get your hands on immediately or risk missing your chance.

Where are you ?
What do you want?
If you are in Ontario , you do not need a range membership, rest of the country , you do.
I presume you have a RPAL
Th dealer will do all the transfer, a serial number and model is needed for a transfer, , if it was between you and a private owner, than you also need to phone in.
Forget about importing something, that would be fine a year or 2 ago when you should have been looking for a handgun.
There are a few handguns coming up on Switzer's auction in a few days in Ont.
You will not be able to buy any of the prohibited guns, just restricted.

Have a look in the Exchange and request membership.
With no Trader Rating History, you will likely have to pay up front, but if you select something from someone with a good Trader Rating, you're likely OK
The only thing holding you back is the transfer through the CFC
Get a coffee, a snack, a good book or sit next to your PC, then keep dialing 1-800-731-4000 etc and out wait them.
I recently managed to get through to initiate a transfer of two Open Tops, so it can be done, or you can try using RCMP Form 5492 which requires both the buyer and the seller to sign. I did that as well.

Try someone's first.
I started with Old Model Vaqueros and I thought with my smaller hands, the S&W would be better for me.
Nope. (And the S&Ws are pricey)
I found the smaller frame New Model Vaqueros were a better fit.
Your mileage may differ.

I’d recommend sfrc, Prophet River or solely outdoors. All three only sell actual stocked products. There’s many others on the top banner as well, but these are my go to dealers.
Some others, including RDSC do not necessarily possess the product or have accurate stock levels.
