Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Still no 3rd party sight mount for this rifle available to fit the holes in the rifle bought from tactical imports? Sad this rifle still has almost no Aftermarket support.
I'm at the point of trying to find the best mount to put on myself that works with rails for the VZ58. I've conceded that I'm going to have to drill and tap the receiver, but I'm waiting for the TNA AK selector switch first.

You cannot drill and tap since it is sheet metal. You have to bolt on - there are several videos on utube from gnnutz.

Loose Upper Hand Guard on the Type 81 SE....anyone have any suggestion on a fix?

How loose is it? If its just a little loose up and down (little bit of play), mine has it too. I know you are looking for a fix but I wouldnt bother with it, if it breaks you cant replace it.

Maybe someone else has a better solution

it seems most of the red edition has loose top HG but it only moves 1.5mm at setting 5, the rest of the settings are .5mm so not much.

i dont think there is a solution besides pinching the back two tabs so i agree with bruh.

So what's the best way to go about extending length of pull on a folding stock version? I bought a slip-on recoil pad, but it was too big for the gun by a few CMs, so there wasn't much point to it.
As it stands whenever I shoot it to get a good cheek weld, I end up with my glasses dangerously close to the dust cover, and I even scratched a pair that way (I have long arms, though I will admit my form for that shot wasn't perfect lol)

Whats the verdict with the side rail ?
Side rail helps IMMESURABLY! Sorry I did ‘t DM back, I’ve been in and out of hospital and haven’t had much time.
My scope broke, howver i have it mounted with a Vortex Red Dot right now and it makes it a lot better - no scrstched glasses! My fiancee doesn’t like the red dot however so I frequently shoot it with irons taking it to the range, at which point I have a hard time

To tack on to that…. Anybody have any russian side mount optics for sale?? Mine bit the dust and I miss it!

Great! glad to have the feedback

Have you tested it with any side mount picatinny rails or just direct mount optics?

People have tested the RS regulate 303 and apparently it works good. In general ones designed for AKs should work but models tailored to fit tight to SVD and VZ 58 dust covers most likely wont.
